Mohit Chauhan (born 11 March 1966) is an Indian playback singer best known for his work for Bollywood, Tollywood, & Kollywood films.

He was also a member of the Indipop band Silk Route.

Chauhan is a two-time winner of the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer and three times for Best Male Playback Artist.

He has recorded songs for film music and albums in many Indian languages, as well as being known as India's top playback singer.

Early life

On March 11, 1966, Mohit Chauhan was born in Nahan, Sirmaur district, Himalaya, India. He attended numerous schools in Himalayan Pradesh, including Our Lady of Snows Highschool in Kullu and St. Luke's Senior Secondary School, Solan, because of his father's transferable work. Chauhan received a Master of Science in Geology from a Dharamshala government college affiliated with Himalayan Pradesh University. He hasn't had formal instruction in music. He was inspired by his grandfather, who was a classical pianist, and he played guitar, harmonica, and flute. He was also influenced by legendary singer Kishore Kumar, who wanted to become an actor before his debut in the music business.

Personal life and philanthropy

On June 29, 2012, Chauhan married Prarthna Gehlot.

Mohit is a participant in the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a not-for-profit public limited company that encourages young people to pursue meaningful vocational education programs.

Chauhan regularly fed 60-70 stray dogs in Delhi at the time of Lockdown in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "There were people who would feed the strays right before the Lockdown." But they haven't stopped now. The stray dogs in Delhi don't hunt and are dependent on humans to feed them. "I've been going around giving them food and water," Chauhan says.

The vocalists for Silk Route were Chauhan, Kem Trivedi, and Kenny Puri. Boondein, his first album, was released in 1998 and featured the hit songs "Dooba Dooba" and "Pehchan." In 2000, the second album was released. Since Silk Route was discontinued in 2008, he released another album named "Fitoor" in 2009.

Chauhan's film singing career began in 2002 when he sang "Pehli Nazar Mein Dari Thi" from the film Road. Rang De Basanti's songs "Khoon Chala" and "Tum Se Hi" from Jab We Met are among his most popular. In 2010 for the song Masakali, he received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer.

He appeared in the third episode of The Dewarists in 2011 for his song "Maaya." He appeared on MTV Unplugged in the same year. With the song "Jaag Re Banda" from the film Last Chance, he made his Gujarati language debut in 2017. "Puchhe Amma" and "Deva Mere," two of the film Saanjh's first ever Himachali songs, were his first ever Himachali songs.

Chauhan was invited by composer Sandesh Shandilya to perform in films following his huge success of "Dooba" and "Boondein" which earned him awards and praise. Chauhan made his debut with Shandilya's arrangement of the song "Pehli Nazar Me Dari Thi" from the 2002 film Road. He performed for the films Main Madhuri Dixit Banana Chahati Hoon and Kyun next year, but no one noticed him in the next year.

The film "Let's Enjoy," "Paintra" and "Guncha Koi" was followed by "Sabse Peeche Hum Khade," for the 2004 film Main Meri Patni aur Woh, in which he also served as composer, and the song "Angna" and "Rowan Akhiya" were followed by "Sabse Peeche Hum Khade."

A.R. Rahman, who had seen Chauhan at the award-winning Silk Route, called on him to sing "Khoon Chala" for the film Rang De Basanti. Chauhan's debut was a breakthrough for him, and he followed this up with his first big hit song in the film Jab We Met, directed by Irshad Kamil; both Pritam and writer-director Imtiaz Ali wanted Chauhan to lend their voice to this romantic track.

Chauhan recalled the popularity of "Tum Se Hi" with the release of "Kuchh Khaas Hai" in 2008, a Salim-Sulaiman composition for Fashion. He and Pritam returned to Kismat Konnection, where he performed "Kahi na Lage Man (Is This Love)" with Shreya Ghoshal. He appeared on screen for the first time in the song's music video, "Ankhon Mein," a soft romantic number from EMI. He appeared in Bolt, his first animated film, where he performed the Hindi version of "I Thought I Lost You."

Of Chauhan's career, 2009 was the most commercially successful year of his career, with four of them, "Masakali" from Kaminey, and "Tune Jo Na Kaha" from New York, establishing him as a fan favorite among the younger generation. As Chauhan's songs became more popular, his 2010 was a moderately profitable sequel to his debut year. The romantic number "Pee Loon" from Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, which was portrayed on Emraan Hashmi, was one of his 2010 hits.

Chauhan's debut as national superstar in 2011 as he resurfaced with Ali and Rahman after nearly two decades; the nine songs he recorded for the film as the protagonist's voice were all major chartbusters at the time of release, and they are now considered cult songs. "Abhi Kuch Dino Se" from Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji and "Khwabon Ke Parinday" from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, "Acha Lagta Hai" from Aarakshan was one of his year's most hit songs, among other things.

Chauhan sang "Dheere Se" for the film Guns of Banaras, written by Sameer and composed by Sohail Sen. He performed "Yeh Dooriyaa," which is composed by Pritam from the film Love Aaj Kal (2020). This song is the latest iteration of "Yeh Dooriyaan" chartbuster from the film Love Aaj Kal (2009). Both the versions are written by Irshad Kamil There is also a remix version which is released by Sony Music India. He performed "Meethi Gallan," "Kisi Gair Ka Nahi," and "Salaam." Chauhan's Salaam is a salute to corona warriors. He appears in a video of "Hum Haar Nahi Maanenge," directed by AR Rahman.

Chauhan sung "Khoon Chala" his song from Rang De Basanti in 2019 as a tribute to the brave Indian Soldiers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were present. The festival took place at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
