He has worked as both an activist and public speaker for a variety of political causes. Farrell, a producer of Patch Adams (1998) starring Robin Williams, appeared in the television series Providence (1999-2002).

On Desperate Housewives (2007–08), he appeared as Milton Lang, the father of Victor Lang (John Slattery), husband of Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria). In the season 10 episode "Persona" of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, he was seen.

In the season 8 episode "Hunteri Heroici" of Supernatural, he appeared as Fred Jones.

He appeared on the Sundance TV Network's criminal drama series The Red Road in 2014.

In FX's anthology film In FX's anthology series The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Lee Miglin portrayed him as a real estate baron who died in the hands of serial murderer Andrew Cunanan.

He appeared in NCIS for the role of Judge Miles Deakin in "Judge, Jury" and "and Executioner" for the first time.

Early life

Farrell, one of four children, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Michael Joseph Farrell, Agnes Sarah Cosgrove and Michael Joseph Farrell's son, was born.

His family moved from South St. Paul, California, where his father worked as a carpenter on film sets, when he was two years old. Farrell attended West Hollywood Grammar School in the same class as fellow actor Natalie Wood and graduated from Hollywood High School. From 1957 to 1959, he served in the United States Marine Corps. He did various jobs before being fired before becoming an actor.

Personal life

Judy Hayden, a high school English and drama instructor in Laguna Beach, California, married Farrell in August 1963. They were separated in 1980 and divorced in 1983. Michael and Erin have two children. Erin's mother was also named Erin on M*A*S*H, Hunnicutt's daughter. Also on M*A*S*H in the episode "The Colonel's Horse" (season 5, episode 12), Hunnicutt's father-in-law Floyd Hayden is the first name of Judy, Farrell's wife. Judy Farrell served as Nurse Able on M*A*S*H from 1976 to 1983.

Shelley Fabares married on December 31, 1984.

Farrell grew a Walrus moustache for the B.J. at the start of M*A*S*H's seventh season. Despite the fact that such a moustache below the upper lip was once a clear violation of Army uniform policy, particularly when left untrimmed. The usually clean-shaven Farrell grew it out for the style, as well as fashion trends at the time, making the moustache a hit for the first time since the twentieth century, in large part thanks to fellow actors such as Burt Reynolds and Tom Selleck, as well as The Mustache Gang of the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball. Although Farrell will keep the moustache for the B.J. Farrell himself got bored of it and didn't want to be portrayed in "B.J.-like roles" for the remainder of his career, despite seeing a rise in acting jobs as a result. Farrell would shave it off straight after the series ended, returning to a clean-shaven appearance soon after.
