Career

Felger, a native of Milwaukee, graduated from Boston University in 1992. He began working as an intern with the Boston Herald after graduating. He joined the Boston Bruins from 1997 to 1999 and became the Boston Bruins' lead reporter. He then became the New England Patriots beat columnist, a position he held from 1999 to 2008.

On 890 ESPN, Felger hosted The Mike Felger Show, a sports talk radio show. The show ran from 2005 to 2008, at which time Felger was fired at the end of his deal. While continuing his television work on Comcast SportsNet New England, he continued as an online columnist and fill-in host for Boston sports radio station WEEI. On August 9, Felger announced that the Felger and Mazz afternoon drive-time show with Tony Massarotti was the first to be held at The Sports Hub. In January 2018, Felger signed a new multi-year contract with 98.5 The Sports Hub's parent company, Beasley Media Group, was formed.

Tony Massarotti, the Boston sports radio host, has apologised for his racially 'insensitive, ignorant, and hurtful' remarks on air about two black men. Massarotti, a Boston Globe sports writer, had his microphone on for his radio talk show Felger & Mazz on 98.5 The Sports Hub when he asked his cohost, Michael Felger, who was working remotely, referring to two black men behind him. According to WCVB, Massarotti, who was co-hosting the program from a hotel in New Orleans, asked Felger, "I want to know right now who the two guys behind you are."
