Background and education
Kurtis was born in Skopje, North Macedonia. His parents are Turkish. He attended the College of Skopje and returned to the United Kingdom at a young age to continue his studies. He earned a degree in Human Sciences, Islamic Law, and Jurisprudence from the European Institute of Human Sciences, University of Wales.
Kurtis comes from a scholarly and religious family. Classical Arabic was both his father and grandfather fluent.
Career
Kurtis had a keen interest in Islamic nasheeds from a young age. He was one of many nasheed groups in Macedonia who performed locally and also carried out several international visits, including performances in Turkey and neighboring locations. Sufi, Turkish classical, Arabic, and European styles influence his music.
