Mekhi Becton (born April 18, 1999) is an American football offensive tackle for the Louisville Cardinals.
Early life and high school career
Becton attended Highland Springs High School in Richmond, Virginia. He was regarded as a three-star candidate and ranked No. 1 in the No. 301. No. 43 offensive tackle and No. No. 4 are tackling. In the 247Sports Composite, there have been 405 people recruited overall. Becton had been recruited by 31 colleges to play football, but by February 1, 2017, National Signing Day, he had narrowed the field to five schools: Louisville, Virginia Tech, Michigan, and Oregon. Although he had been heavily recruited by Virginia, he ultimately chose Louisville on signing day.
College career
Becton made his debut in the 2017 season as a freshman. Becton appeared in 13 games and started 11 for the Cardinals at the tackle position in his freshman season. Becton was the highest-rated freshman in the country by Pro Football Focus during the first four games of the season, and during the 7 he was the best pass-blocker in the ACC, with only 6 snaps in 312 snaps.
Becton was selected as a starting tackle for the 2018 season and started every game, increasing his number of games to 23 by the end of the season. For the 2019 season, Becton was named a starting tackle for the first time. Following the conclusion of the regular season, he received his first team All-ACC award. Becton has chosen to forego his senior years and sit out Louisville's bowl game and reserve his spot in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Professional career
In the 2020 NFL Draft, Becton was selected as the 11th overall pick by the New York Jets.
Becton sustained a visible knee injury on September 12, 2021, and was carted off the field. Becton was found to have cartilage damage that required surgery, requiring surgery, putting him out for 4 to six weeks. On September 14, 2021, he was put on injured reserve.
Becton was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture of his right kneecap during training camp on August 8, 2022. The Jets put him on injured reserve eight days later.
