Jin Au-Yeung (born June 4, 1982), also known as MC Jin, is an American rapper, singer, and comedian of Hakka descent, who is the first Asian American solo artist to be signed to a major recording label in the United States.
Born in Miami, Florida, and later in New York City, he spent several years in Hong Kong before returning to New York in the summer of 2012.
Early life
Jin Au-Yeung was born in Miami, Florida, on June 4, 1982, to Hong Kong immigrants of Hakka descent. He was born in the general Miami area, where his parents owned a Chinese restaurant and Jin attended John F. Kennedy Middle School in North Miami Beach. Jin then enrolled in North Miami Senior High School, from which he graduated in 2000. Jin decided against college and jump straight into rap. His parents resigned shortly after, and the family moved to Queens, New York City, in 2001.
Personal life
On February 12, 2011, Jin married Carol in Puerto Rico. The couple met at a concert in which Jin was appearing. The following year, they had their son.
In 2008, Jin became a born again Christian. Jaeson Ma, a Chinese American pastor, converted him. He has since launched several gospel themed websites that celebrate his faith.
In the 2008 US presidential election, Jin endorsed Barack Obama. Obama's campaign received funds from his album "Open Letter to Obama."
Jin declared on Twitter that he was officially endorsing presidential candidate Andrew Yang in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries. "Drew Yang Gang, That's Who I Hooked Up Wit," and "#8MileYang" have two songs to support Yang. Jin also attended Andrew Yang's political appearances.

Career
When Jin was in New York, he competed in numerous rap matches with his peers.
Jin's big break came in 2002 when the BET program 106 & Park invited local rappers to compete in a segment called Freestyle Friday. In his freestyle verses, Jin occasionally spoke Cantonese. He was inducted into the Freestyle Friday Hall of Fame after winning seven battles in a row. He announced that he had signed a deal with Ruff Ryders Entertainment the night of the ceremony.
"Learn Chinese" was his first single under Ruff Ryders and featured Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean. It featured a sample from James Brown's song "Blind Man Can See It" (which was also sampled by Das EFX and Lord Finesse). Kanye West's second single on the album was supposed to be "I Got a Love." The album was supposed to be released in the summer of 2003, but it was delayed for more than a year by the manufacturer. In October 2004, Jin unveiled his debut album, The Rest Is History, which debuted at number 54 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. "Learn Chinese" and "Senorita," the two singles, were not big commercial success, and the album only sold 19,000 units in its first week. In 2006, Jin left the mark.
Jin and rapper Serius Jones engaged in a rap brawl on April 23, 2005. On the Fight Klub DVD, the war was broadcast.
Jin revealed on May 18, 2005, that he would put his rap career on hold in order to investigate other options. To make this clear, he performed "I Quit," a Golden Child song that was released. The news was widely misinterpreted to have marked the end of Jin's rap career. However, he resurfaced under new name The Emcee's predecessor and became popular for hits like Jay-Z's "Dear Summer." In which he explored the history of hip-hop's best artists, using lyrics, he released a single named "Top 5 (Dead or Alive) (Dead or Alive). In Jin's music video, legendary DJ Kool Herc, who is credited as the initiator of hip-hop, appears. On October 25, 2005, Jin's Propoe's Properganda, an independent label, was released.
Jin worked with Queens-born rapper Creature on his album "Never Say Die," which also featured Slug and Busdriver on his album "Never Say Die."
Jin was also included on Taiwanese pop artist Leehom Wang's 2005 album Heroes of Earth. Jin and Leehom performed their "Heroes of the Earth" concert in Shanghai on February 16, 2006, at an event hosted by China-resident A&R executive Andrew Ballen. Jin told MySpace that he was working on another English album titled "Birthdays, Funerals, and Things in Between." On April 24, 2007, Jin performed "Open Letter to Obama," putting him 1st on then-President Barack Obama's Top 8 list on MySpace.
"Rain, Rain Go Away" was Jin's tribute song to the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre on April 16, 2007. Jin decided to make his online album, I Promise, available in grocery stores later this year; the collection was announced on October 23, 2007.
MC Jin was one of the rapper characters in Phenom's 2006 video game NBA Ballers: Phenom, alongside Ludacris and Hot Sauce.

In 2008, Universal Music Hong Kong took Jin Jin out to Hong Kong to promote his Cantonese album ABC's re-release. "I think with many artists, Cantonese hip-hop is getting more popular," Jin said in an interview. ABC debuted at number one in Hong Kong and gained gold status. He appeared in commercials and appeared on televisionB shows like Big Boys Club. He has also been regarded as a key player in recent Asian hip hop trends, and has been described as "the changing face of Cantopop."
In a track titled "One Day" (2008), Jin did a project with Malaysian rapper Point Blanc.
On his Myspace page, he also posted the song "Welcome to the Light Club." Jin is a Christian, according to his song "Welcome to the Light Club" he was baptized in 2008. This mixtape is open to everybody and with Jin, it will be mixed from the general population and mixed with Jin. On May 15, 2010, he unveiled "Say Something" mixtape. Hanjin Tan, Jin's best friend, released an album in 2010. Jin collaborated with singer Hanjin Tan () to produce another Cantonese album (Buy one get one free). Jin also released a music video for his English single "Angels."
During his stay in Hong Kong, Jin has appeared in films including Gallants and Bruce Lee, My Brother.
In December, 2010, Jin produced "Rap Now, 2010" with Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang. A number of lines ended with "Act Now" in the video, with lyrics penned by Jin. () The Hong Kong government has echoed a Hong Kong government slogan. On the CE office's YouTube channel, it attracted more than nine million views. In comparison to Jin's earlier performances, a CNN story characterized the video as a "official eyesore" and "a political card thinly veiled as a Christmas card." However, local newspaper The Standard, in reaction to critics, said in an editorial that "Tsang, like the millions who post videos of themselves or their loved ones, only wants to have fun."
On March 7, 2011, Jin unveiled a music video for a song from his forthcoming English album "Charlie Sheen," co-producing with musicians Dumbfoundead and Traphik. Sincerely Yours, a Christian-oriented and self-improvement-focused EP with positive quotes about life and self-reflective insights into his own life, Jin unveiled an EP titled Sincerely Yours. Jin attended the Artistes 311 Love Beyond Borders charity concert on April 1, 2011 to help raise funds for Japan's disaster recovery efforts after the 2011 Thoku earthquake and tsunami. The 3-hour celebrations raised over HK$26 million (USD$3.3 million).
Jin unveiled the track "AIYA" on May 16, 2011 with Toestah, Jin's label-mate. In Hong Kong, Jin released his second Cantonese album, 'Homecoming.'

Jin produced a re-vamped version of his EP Sincerely Yours 2.0, which featured some of the same songs, but many others were changed, barely changing the overall feel of the song.
