Alla Pugacheva, one of Russia's most popular musicians, has said that Vladimir Putin is pointlessly sending young men to die in Ukraine. The statement on Instagram is a major departure from a prominent figure in Russian authorities, who have stifled opposition in recent years. Pugacehva has been dubbed the "Russian Dolly Parton" by British comedian and journalist Viv Groskop, underlining her celebrity and national fame.
