Junior career

Baghdatis played his first junior match in September 1998 at the age of 14 in Cyprus's Grade-5 tournament. At the 2002 Junior US Open, he reached the final but lost to Richard Gasquet. He reached No. 105. In January 2003, ITF junior Circuit world singles rankings ranked 1st place in the ITF Junior Circuit world singles rankings. He then won the 2003 Junior Australian Open as the top seed, defeating Florin Mergea in the final. He recalled his heroic appearance at the 2003 Junior US Open in 2002, but he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He then won the 2003 Orange Bowl for the U18 category, defeating Gavin Monfils in the final. Professional career

Baghdatis had a modest success in the first half of 2004. He returned to form later this year.

Baghdatis appeared in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. In a first-round match 2–6, 6–2, 7–5, he defeated Olivier Mutis. He was one of only two players to win a set from eventual champion Roger Federer (the other being Andre Agassi). Baghdatis then finished the year with two Challenger tournament titles, in which he defeated numerous higher-ranked opponents.

Baghdatis' 2005 season began with a first-round loss against Nicolas Devilder in the Chennai Open. Baghdatis advanced to the Australian Open in the second round as a qualifier before losing in the fourth round to Roger Federer. Baghdatis sustained an elbow injury right after the Australian Open and was out of the tour until late April, when he entered the Estoril Open in Portugal, a clay court tournament. In his first-round match against a resurgent Juan Carlos Ferrero, he had two match points, but lost in the end, but did not manage to convert them into a win.

Over the next months, Baghdatis was solid on the ATP World Tour. At St. Petersburg, Kuala Lumpur, and Tokyo, he reached the round of 16 participants.

The Stockholm Open was his last tournament of the season. Baghdatis defeated American Sam Quero 7–6, 6–1. Baghdatis shocked In-form Australian Bernard Tomic 7–6, 6–3. He defeated Gilles Muller in the quarterfinals 7–6, 4–6, 6–3. However, Baghdatis' right groin injury forced him to withdraw from a match, where he advanced to the second round of his semifinal against top seed Tomas Berdych.

In the top 100, the Cypriot achieved his 11th straight finish. Thanks to a doubles victory over Greece in July (d. Stergiou/Theodorou), the Davis Cup won by 63-13 years, up from 2013-14 combined. Baghdatis came to No. No. 1 last year. He currently ranks 46th in the ATP rankings and hopes to sustain his revival in 2016.

Baghdatis began his second daughter's participation in the Australian Open just a few days before the Australian Open at the exhibition Kooyong Classic, where he competed with Pablo Caro and Paul-Henri Mathieu. He drew ninth seed Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in a match between two former champions at the Australian Open, where Baghdatis was unseeded. It was my first match of the year and I'm sure I lack a little bit of rhythm, particularly under pressure. I had a chance in the third set but the lack of matches before the tournament led me to make "inappropriate decisions at that time."

Baghdatis was last seen at the ATP 250 tournament in Open Sud de France. Baghdatis defeated Lukas Lacko in the first round, seeded eighth. He saved seven second set setpoints against Taro Daniel, winning in straight sets, putting them both up in the second round. Richard Gasquet, the top seed and eventual champion, was defeated in two sets in the quarterfinals. Baghdatis then migrated to Rotterdam, where he competed at the ABN AMRO ATP-500-tournament. He was drawn against fourth seed David Goffin in a three-set victory, bouncing back from a 5–2 deficit in the third set tiebreak. In a head-to-head match against Goffin, he led to 4-1 defeat. After round two, Baghdatis' bid came to an end in Rotterdam, with a two-sets loss to eventual champion Martin Klin.

Baghdatis' resurgent appearance at the prestigious Dubai Tennis Championships continued his heroic rise. On his way to the final, Baghdatis, stunned Viktor Troicki, Vasek Pospisil, Bautista Agut, and Feliciano Lopez made his way to the final. In the final 6–4, 7–6, including a near-time tiebreaker in the second sets, Stan Wawrinka would succumb to him. Baghdatis, re-entered the top 40 for the first time in three years, and returned to form from ten years ago. After the final, Baghdatis said, "I didn't win the tournament this week, but I gained a lot more, and I regained my confidence." I'm glad I'm back and playing this style of tennis now. It's just to keep improving and playing at this level throughout the year."

Baghdatis began his clay-court season in Houston, with him having his lowest surface. In the first double-bagel win of his career over Diego Schwartzman in the first round, he won by 6–3 to advance to the quarterfinals. Jack Sock, the eventual champion, was defeated 6–4, 6–4. Baghdatis, on the other hand, failed for the majority of the clay court season, losing in Bucharest and Madrid in the first round, and leaving out of several other tournaments. Baghdatis won in straight sets over Giles Muller at Roland Garros before losing in the first two sets and losing in a thrilling tie to Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in five sets.

Baghdatis had good, but not spectacular results in the coming months. He qualified in the quarterfinals in both Halle and Nottingham on grass, while his time in Halle brought him a straight-sets victory over world No. 1. Baghdatis advanced to the fourth round of the 2018 Indian Wells Masters as a qualifier defeating Yoshihito Nishioka, 14th seed Diego Schwartzman, and Dudi Sela along the way. Due to injury, he was unable to participate in his fourth round match against Milos Raonic. The result will get him a wildcard into the 2018 Miami Masters. In straight sets, he lost in the first round to Jared Donaldson.

Baghdatis won his last match over a top-10 field at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. In the first round, Dominic Thiem was 7, Dominic Thiem.

Baghdatis qualified for the main draw and defeated top seed and defending champion Lucas Pouille in the second round of the 2019 Open Sud de France, advancing to the quarterfinals. In straight sets, he lost in straight sets to Radu Albot in the quarterfinals. He won his opening match against fellow wildcard Mohamed Safwat in the first round but then lost in straight sets to Gal Monfils in the next round. He took the 2019 Pingshan Open for the second time two weeks after defeating Stefano Napolitano in the final. It will be his first challenger title in over four years and the last title of his career.

Baghdatis has announced that he would step down and that the 2019 Wimbledon Championships will be his last tournament. He received a wild card into the main draw and defeated Brayden Schnur in the first round in straight sets, his last victory of his career. For his last match, he lost in straight sets in the second round on July 4th. Fans in the stadium booed him as he left the courthouse in tears. Many fellow athletes, including Roger Federer, lauded his retirement and were named one of the top retirees in 2019.
