Frederick Schiller Faust (May 29, 1892 – May 12, 1944) was an American author best known for his thoughtful and literary Westerns under the pen name Max Brand. Dr. James Kildare, a young medical intern in a series of pulp fiction novels, was also created by him (as Max Brand). Faust's Kildare character was revived in various media, including a collection of American theatrical films by Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), a radio series, two television series, and comics.
