Matt Nicholls Life

Bring Me the Horizon (often abbreviated as BMTH) is an English rock band formed in Sheffield in 2004.

The group includes lead vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls, and keyboardist Jordan Fish.

They are all signed to RCA Records internationally and Columbia Records in the United States, although Columbia Records is exclusive in the United States. Count Your Blessings, the band's debut album, was released in 2006.

The album's sound polarized listeners upon its introduction, and it was met with disdain.

With Suicide Season (2008), the band's first break away from their controversial sound was launched, it was a revolutionary, critical, and commercial turning point for the band.

Bring Me The Horizon's third album, There Is a Hell Believe Me I've Seen It.

There's a Heaven Let's Keep It a Secret, a 2010 phenomenon that brought them to international prominence, but they don't include influences from classical, electro, and pop.

Sempiternal (2013), the company's debut, earned Gold and Silver in Australia (35,000) and Silver in the United Kingdom (60,000).

That's the Spirit (2015) debuted in the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200 at number two.

Amo (2019), the group's sixth studio album, became the first UK chart top 10.

They have also released two extended plays and two live albums in addition to these six studio albums.

They have received four Kerrang!

Two awards have been given to Best British Band and one for Best Live Band, two of which were included.

They have also been nominated for two Grammy Awards. Their early music, as well as their debut album Count Your Blessings, has been characterized largely as deathcore, but later albums, they began to adopt a more ethnic style of metalcore.

In addition, That's the Spirit ushered a change in their sound to less aggressive rock music styles.

Amo's popularity slowed to new genres, such as electronica, pop, and hip hop.

Formation and early releases (2002–2006)

Bring Me the Horizon's founding members hail from a variety of musical genres, including metal and rock. Matt Nicholls and Oliver Sykes shared an interest in American metalcore such as Norma Jean and Skycamefalling, and they used to attend local hardcore punk shows. They later met Lee Malia, who talked to them about thrash metal and melodic death metal bands such as Metallica and At the Gates; Malia had also been a member of a Metallica tribute band before meeting them. Bring Me the Horizon was officially established in March 2004, when the participants were aged 15 to 17. Curtis Ward, who also lived in Rotherham, joined Sykes, Malia, and Nicholls on drums. Matt Kean, a member of other local bands, completed the line-up. Captain Jack Sparrow's The Curse of the Caribbean (2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean) has a line of dialogue where Captain Jack Sparrow says, "Now, bring me the horizon."

Bring Me the Horizon released a demo album titled Bedroom Sessions in the months leading up to their debut. They followed this by releasing This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For in September 2004 by local UK label Thirty Days of Night Records. Bring Me the Horizon was the label's first signing. It was recorded at Pristine Studios in Nottingham over the course of two weekends, with drums and bass guitar laid down over the first weekend, followed by guitars and vocals a week later.

Visible Noise, a British company, noticed the band shortly after they were released, and in comparison to re-releasing the EP in January 2005. The re-release attracted a lot of attention, with the band eventually gaining the top spot in No. 3. On the UK album charts, 41 appears. At the 2006 Kerrang, the band was named Best British Newcomer. The award ceremony took place.

The band's first tour was to promote The Red Chord throughout the United Kingdom. They were able to secure this slot by tricking venue promoters as with other early tours. Carol Sykes, Kean and Oliver's mother, were the de facto boss of the band at that time, a position they continued to occupy until 2008. Kean emailed promoters and pretended they were opening on all the dates, despite the fact that they were supposed to attend just at their local theater. They were later booked for the entire tour, which led to them to being in line for the whole tour. In another case, Sykes established an e-mail account in the name of Johnny Truant vocalist Oliver Mitchell, which he used to contact a promoter requesting Bring Me the Horizon on tour. The band's live shows in their early history when they became so inebriated they vomshed on stage and destroyed their equipment.

Count Your Blessings was the band's debut album in the United Kingdom in October 2006 and in August 2007 in the United States. They rented a house in the country to write songs, but they were quickly distracted. They then recorded the album in Birmingham's inner city, a phenomenon that was notorious for their overebriated and risky drinking. "We were out every night, just being regular 18-year-olds" during this period. Critics panned the album, adding to the band's increasingly polarized responses that were already getting from the public.

They supported Count Your Blessings by going on a long headline tour of the United Kingdom in November and then following this with Lostprophets and The Blackout on a UK tour from late November to December 2006.

When Bring Me the Horizon replaced Bury Your Dead on Killswitch Engage's European headline tour in January 2007, they were able to set their sights outside of the United Kingdom. Bury Your Dead were compelled to resign after Mat Bruso, the band's vocalist, was forced to leave by the band's departure. Bring Me the Horizon's presence on the tour was poorly received by followers of Killswitch Engage, with concert goers frequently throwing bottles at the band before they started playing their sets.

Bring Me the Horizon produced their second studio album, Suicide Season, in Sweden, with producer Fredrik Nordström. He was unimpressed with his debut album and was initially late to the recording sessions because he wanted to be there. Nordström heard the new sound they were playing with during a recording session and became more involved in the project. It was widely distributed in the weeks leading up to its debut with the slogan "September is Suicide Season" in the advertising tag line. The band, as well as appearing at the 2008 Warped Tour, embarked on their first headline tour of the United States. Suicide Season is a worldwide phenomenon. Bringing Me the Horizon, the main support band on I Killed the Prom Queen's farewell Australian tour with The Ghost Inside and The Red Shore in May 2008.

Suicide Season was announced in the United States on Epitaph and in Europe on September 29th through Visible Noise. Bring Me the Horizon was at the 2009 Kerrang! In the case of fire and Mindless Self Indulgence, a tour with Black Tide, Diren Grey, and Mindless Self Indulgence was on display. On the 2009 Taste of Chaos tour from February to April, they accompanied Cancer Bats, Four Year Strong, and Pierce the Veil. Kevin Lyman, the tour's tour guide, sold them on Thursday. The band was initially skeptical of joining this tour, but they were convinced after Lyman gave them a bus and $500 worth of fuel for the trip.

Curtis Ward, a guitarist, left the band during the Taste of Chaos tour in March of this year. Since his stage performances were poor, his band's friendship had deteriorated. On the Taste of Chaos tour, he was a bit late for Suicide Season's writing. The deteriorating tinnitus in his one working ear was another factor in his resignation. Ward was born deaf in one ear and revealed that playing in the band escalated the ringing in his other ear to the point where he was unable to sleep at night. Ward was due to appear for the remainder of the tour dates, but the band turned to Dean Rowbotham, their guitarist, to substitute for him for the remaining performances. Ward's departure, according to Lee Malia, lifted everyone's spirits as he had been extremely negative. Sykes began speaking with Jona Weinhofen, who at the time when Bleeding Through was the guitarist of Bleeding Through. The band knew of him from his time with his old band, I Killed the Prom Queen, and he was invited to join them. Ward has since appeared on Top Gear's television show "Pray For Plagues" as a performer, most notably at Wembley Arena in 2015. Ward had joined the band Counting Days in 2016.

Bring Me the Horizon unveiled a reimagined Suicide Season in November 2009, Suicide Season: Cut Up! Ben Weinman, Skrillex, L'Amour La Morgue, Utah Saints, and Shawn Crahan are among the musicians and producers on the record. The album features many genres, including electronica, drum and bass, hip-hop, and dubstep. The dubstep style of the record has been recognized in tracks by Tek-One and Skrillex, but Travis McCoy's remix of "Chelsea Smile" features hip-hop elements.

The band's third album, and first with their new rhythm guitarist Jona Weinhofen, is titled "I've Seen It." There's a Heaven Let's Keep It a Secret (Japan) was published on October 4, 2010, number 13 on the UK Album Chart, and number 17 on the Australian Album Chart, the UK Rock Chart, and the UK Indie Chart. Despite being ranked number one in Australia, the album's sales were the lowest for a number one album in the Australian Recording Industry Association's (ARIA) charts.

Matt Nicholls describes There Is a Hell... as "repercussions of everything we were singing about on our last CD [Suicide Season]], describing the music and lyrics as being a lot more moody and darker. Five songs were released from the album, including "It Never Ends," "Blessed with a Curse," "Visions," and "Alligator Blood"; each of the songs had music videos. With the help of Cancer Bats and Tek-One, the band embarked on a headline tour in intimate venues around the United Kingdom. Bring Me the Horizon was the main support band on a short five-date arena tour around the United Kingdom in December 2010. Live Nation introduced extra standing tickets for all dates to accommodate high demand.

Bring Me the Horizon began in April 2011 in the United Kingdom and opened in the United Kingdom. They toured with Parkway Drive and Architects as the main support band for the UK and dubstep group Tek-One. However, the tour was not without its drawbacks. While playing football with members of Bring Me the Horizon, Parkway Drive, and Architects, Nicholls fractured his arm on April 28th. Architect Dan Searle took over as drummer rather than cancelling the tour, but Bring Me the Horizon's setlist was reduced in length. The tour was extended from 13 August to October, with Parkway Drive and Architects retaining and adding Deez Nuts to the line up. On August 23, they introduced "Visions," their fourth music video and single, and "Alligator Blood" was announced on October 31.

Machine Head, the main support band, as well as DevilDriver and Darkest Hour, took part in an arena tour around Europe in December 2011. These will be the last European dates for Oliver Sykes before they started writing and recording their fourth album. The Chill Out Sessions, a band's joint venture with British DJ Draper, came to an end on December 29th. In May 2011, Draper's first remix of "Blessed with a Curse" was released. The EP was scheduled to be released in time for New Year's Day and made available for download and purchase on Bring Me the Horizon's website, but the EP was postponed due to the band's "current leadership and label issues."

Bring Me the Horizon's third album's sales were released at the end of 2011. They returned to the United Kingdom for a long break and then started work on their new album. They wrote their fourth album in seclusion and loneliness to remain focused, much like their previous two albums. They retreated to a house in the Lake District this time. The band began to release photos of themselves recording at a 'Top Secret Studio Location,' in July, announcing that they were working with producer Terry Date on the recording and production of the album.' The band departed their name and signed with RCA on July 30th, the band's fourth album will be released in 2013. Warped Tour 2012, the band appeared at only three shows in all of 2012 (and was first reported to be their only show), on October 22nd, where they performed a six-song set supporting Bullet for My Valentine and in Sheffield on November 9th. With a tentative launch in early 2013, it was announced in late October that the fourth album would be called Sempiternal. The Chill Out Sessions, a free of charge band, was released on November 22nd.

"Shadow Moses," Sempiternal's first single, was released on January 4th, 2013. On BBC's Radio 1, Daniel P. Carter appeared for the first time. Epitaph revealed the music video for the song a week earlier than anticipated due to high demand. The band underwent a makeover in their line-up in January. Jordan Fish, Worship's keyboardist and session musician, was confirmed as a full member early in the month. Jona Weinhofen left the band later this month for undisclosed reasons. Despite the band's deny that Fish replaced Weinhofen, reviewers said that replacing a guitarist with a keyboardist would better match their style.

In February, the band had been confirmed for multiple festival appearances. They appeared at all five Australian Soundwave festivals in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, as well as in Johannesburg, where they appeared with Rise Against in March, Rock Am Ring and Rock in Park festivals in Germany, and Canada's Warped Tour 2013 appeared from June to August. Sempiternal's band performed their first headline tour of the United Kingdom in 18 months with Crossfaith and Empress AD, which came coincided with the band's appearance on 29 April 29th.

The band toured Australia with Of Mice & Men and Crossfaith and also performed with Sights & Sounds in support of Sempiternal, and they appeared on a British tour with Pierce The Veil and Sights & Sounds. They continued to complete the American Dream Tour in North America, being aided by Of Mice & Men, "letlive." Northlane and Detourne are two distinct places. The band was announced as the main supporter for American band A Day to Remember on their "Parks & Devastation Tour" tour in America throughout September and October, as well as support acts Moveless in White and Chiodos. On December 5th, the band performed with support acts Young Guns, Issues, and Sleepwave, which was also released as a live album/DVD.

The band began promoting photographs of an umbrella symbol being used as a tattoo, as well as on stickers, and posters around England, Australia, and Europe; it was later used as a promotional banner for the band's first single in late June. In early July, the band released a short video in which the phrase "that's the spirit" could be heard in reverse. On July 13, 2015, the band's Vevo page "Happy Song" was posted, and Sykes' name was "That's the Spirit" on the album's website, but Sykes revealed the album's name on July 21, 2015. The band's single and music video for "Throne" on July 23, 2015, and another promotional track from the album, "Reality Friends," was released on August 24th, 2015. The album was released on September 11, 2015 to critical acclaim. "Drown," "Reality Friends," "Avalanche," and "Oh No" have been among several music videos, including "Drown," "Follow You," "Profile Friends," "Mollow You," and "Oh No."

The band debuted in October 2015 with the help of metalcore band Issues and rock band PVRIS. The band toured Europe in November 2015 and embarked on their second tour of the United States in April and May 2016. In September 2016, an Australian tour was followed by a second European tour in November 2016.

The band performed a live concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London on April 22, 2016, conducted by Simon Dobson. It was the first time the band had performed with a live orchestra at a festival. On December 2, 2016, it was recorded, and Live at the Royal Albert Hall, a crowdfunding platform, was released, with all proceeds donated to Teenage Cancer Trust. Following the performance, Fish speculated at the possibility of performing a complete tour with an orchestra, saying, "It seems almost a shame to go to all this effort for months and months for just one night."

The cryptic posters appeared in major cities around the world in August 2018, with the message "do you want to start a cult with me?" The posters were only linked to the band by major media outlets, who were only aware of the band's use of the hexagram symbol. During this period, the band themselves have not revealed their involvement in the campaign. Each poster had a unique phone number and a website address. The website featured a short message titled "An Invitation To Salvation" on the front page, which also listed the date of August 21, 2018. Fans were put on hold by long, complex audio messages that changed often, and phone calls were made. According to reports, several of these messages ended with a distorted audio clip of what was ostensibly new band music.

The band's lead single "Mantra" was released on August 21. The band unveiled their album Amo on Monday, as well as a line of tour dates titled the First Love World Tour.

He also updated the company's release schedule, saying that they "planned to do four EPs a year," but that "Actually a Human] was almost an album, so I suspect the spacing will be a bit longer than anticipated." Post Human: Survival Horror will debut on physical media on January 22, 2021, giving Bring Me the Horizon their second UK number one on the UK Albums Chart. Amo will be the first to accomplish this feat two years after it was announced that he would be the first to do so.
