The annual competition showcases environmental photography from around the world to inspire climate action. This year, six finalists included amateur and professional photographers aged 17 to 70 from some of the world's most climate vulnerable countries, such as Bangladesh, India, and Argentina. Thousands of photographs from over 159 countries were submitted for the prize by CIWEM and WaterBear, which encourages photographers to use photography as a means to raise concerns of climate change. The competition, which has been running for the 16th year in the United States, has six categories: Environmental Photographer of the Year, Nikon's Young Photographer of the Year, MPB Vision of the Future, Recovering Nature, Keeping 1.5 Alive and Adapting for Tomorrow. Maurizio di Pietro, a commercial photographer based in Italy, has been honoured for his photograph of an experimental insect food experiment (top right) at the University of Turin.
