Prepare for another 48 hours of hell as a wall of fire bears down on new resorts

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 26, 2023
As holidaymakers and locals prepare for the country's hottest day, Greece's prime minister (inset) has warned that Rhodes is likely to be at least two more days of hell. According to scientists, a large part of southern Europe is experiencing one of the longest, driest, and hottest summers on record, owing to man-made climate change. Rhodes has been burning for eight days as Greek authorities were evading new areas (Gennadi burns, left, right) as Brits continued to flee the idyllic island.

Rhys hysteria: Despite alarmist warnings including a simpleJet pilot who told screaming holidaymakers to get off flight, only 42 hotels have been closed due to wildfires, Greece says tourists should still come to the island and British tourists have said "nothing to be concerned about."

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 25, 2023
Britons holidaying in Rhodes that were not affected by the wildfires today said there was "nothing to worry about" in the midst of widespread panic about the situation, with just 40 major hotels impacted and around 20% of holidaymakers affected. Many people from the island's south-eastern area expressed excitement about their holiday, as more British holidaymakers returned to the United Kingdom on repatriation flights. However, some Britons in Rhodes were enjoying their holidays, with those in the upmarket resort of Kallithea, on the north of the island's north, telling MailOnline today that they were not concerned about the fire that has engulfed hotels further south. Tui, the holiday company, has listed all 42 hotels affected in the Greek island's south-eastern area, including Kiotari, Gennadin, Plimiri, Lardos, Pefkoi, and Vlicha. Tui reported that all holiday bookings to Rhodes had been cancelled up to and including Friday, with no one flying to the island this week. The company reported that it had around 39,000 visitors on the island, 7,800 or 20% of whom were affected by the wildfires, according to the company.
