Early life
Marisha Ray Huber was born in Mount Washington, Kentucky, the daughter of a mother who works as a dog groomer and a father who sells truck tires. She hails from an extended family of Louisville farmers, having aided her grandfather with chores around his tobacco farm when she was growing up from six years old. She began appearing at the Actors Theater of Louisville at the age of 12. At the age of 19, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Her parents supported the decision and drove her there. She arrived around the time of the Writer's Guild war, and although she had trouble finding auditions, she began campaigning for the 2008 presidential election to help herself financially. As the campaign came to an end, she took up street performing on Hollywood Boulevard for a short time before turning to full-time busking by dressing as Tinkerbell for three years.

Career
In 2012, Ray created Batgirl: Spoiled, a Batgirl fan series in which she played the titular protagonist. She began co-starring in Critical Role, in which she appears alongside fellow voice actors in performing Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition in 2015. Keyleth, a half-elf druid, was her protagonist for the first campaign. She assembled a playlist resembling Keyleth's journey as a part of her exploration. Beaugard, a human monk, was her character for her second campaign. Laudna, a warlock/sorcerer, is her new protagonist in the third campaign. She appeared in many of Geek & Sundry's other films, including co-hosting Key Questions, appearing in Sagas of Sundry, and producing Signal Boost! On July 28, 2017, she announced her appointment to the role of creative director for Geek & Sundry, but she resigned in June 2018.
Critical Role was both the Webby Award winner and the People's Voice Winner in the "Games (Video Series & Channels)" segment at the 2019 Webby Awards, and the show was also a finalist and Audience Honor Winner at the 2019 Shorty Awards. After being extremely popular, the Critical Role cast left the Geek & Sundry network in early 2019 and founded Critical Role Productions; Ray was also the company's creative director. They planned to raise $750,000 on Kickstarter to produce an animated version of their first film, but they ended up raising over $11 million. Amazon Prime Video revealed that they had won the streaming rights to this animated film, now titled The Legend of Vox Machina; Ray reprised her role as Keyleth. Amazon announced the series ahead of its premiere (in January 2022), which is expected to premiere in January 2023. Amazon renewed the series for a third season on October 6, 2022.
