Early life
Mantilla is the younger of two daughters of Olmedo Lucio Mantilla Mayer and Elvia Elizabeth Garca Linares born in Trujillo, Mantilla. She was preparing to teach high school and wanted to start a second degree in Tourism. One of her goals was to own an online tourism business to market her native town and country around the world. Trujillo, Colombia's capital, is a mashup of colonial and pre-Columbian architecture.
Mantilla became Peruvian national champion of Triathlon and Pentathlon in 2001 and was named national athlete of the year. She is a professional dancer in The Marinera, a common local dance.
