A major crash marred one of Belgium's most coveted road cycling events, leaving Olympic champion Wout van Aert with broken collarbone and fractured ribs. After being carried down alongside several riders some 65 kilometers from the end of the Dwars door Vlaanderen one-day race on Wednesday, Van Aert sustained multiple fractures. The Visma-Lease a Bike team's leader crashed in Belgium just before the climb of Berg ten Houte, as well as Intermarche-Wanty and Mads Pedersen and Jasper Stuyven of Lidl-Trek.

Jonas Vingegaard was crowned Tour de France champion for the second year in a row, while Jordi Meeus took the final stage in a photo finish on the Champs-Elysees. All attention was on Jasper Philipsen, the winner of four stages of this Tour, and Dylan Groenewegen on the right-hand side of the road, but it was Meeus who shot down the left to nick it with a bike throw as the Paris finale came down to the customary sprint finish. Four riders arrived at the line nearly united, with Philipsen coming in second, Groenewegen third, and Mads Pedersen fourth.
