Luiz Adriano Career

Club career

Luiz Adriano stole the attention of European clubs with his Internacional performances at the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2006. In Internacional's 2–1 victory over Al Ahly in the semi-final round of the competition, he scored the game's deciding goal. Luiz Adriano came on as a late replacement and was instrumental in Adriano Gabiru's 82nd-minute triumph.

On March 2, 2007, Luiz Adriano was transferred to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk for a reported €3 million transfer fee (R$8,128,830). He made his debut in the Ukrainian Premier League against city rivals Metalurh Donetsk on March 19, 2007 at the age of 19 years 11 months and 7 days. Luiz Adriano scored his first goal for the club in the 94th minute of a 4–1 victory over Metalist Kharkiv on March 15, 2008, but it took almost a year.

Adriano scored his first goal in Europe on August 28, 2008, netting his side's first goal against Dinamo Zagreb in their 3–1 second-leg victory over Dinamo Zagreb to guarantee a spot in the UEFA Champions League's group stage. Shakhtar defeated Werder Bremen 2–1 after extra time on the first goal of the 2009 UEFA Cup Final.

Luiz Adriano scored the winning goal against Roma on February 16, 2011 in a 3–2 away win in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. In a 2–0 league victory over Metalurh Donetsk on May 7, 2011, he scored his 50th Shakhtar goal.

After a 2–0 victory, Luiz Adriano opened the scoring in the 2012 Ukrainian Super Cup against cup holders Metalurh Donetsk to help Shakhtar claim the trophy. In a 3–0 victory over Karpaty Lviv, he scored his first goal of the 2012–13 Premier League season. In a 3–1 victory over Dynamo Kyiv on September 2, he scored the last goal. He scored his third goal in a 3–0 victory over Zorya Luhansk on September 15th, with compatriot Willian assisting.

Luiz Adriano scored a controversial 1–1 equalizer against Danish team Nordsjlland in the Champions League on November 20, 2012. After a player injury that resulted in a dropped ball, Willian attempted to return it to the Nordsjaelland goalkeeper, but Luiz Adriano pounced on the pass, rounded the goalkeeper, and left the goalkeeper with a blank net. The Danish players and the audience erupted in a flurry of protests. Luiz Adriano was suspended for one game for unsporting conduct, according to UEFA. Shakhtar released a statement supporting the UEFA decision and expressing dissatisfaction with the player's conduct.

In the Ukrainian Super Cup, Luiz Adriano made his season debut against Chornomorets Odesa, but the striker failed to score, despite winning 3–1. In Shakhtar's first Ukrainian Premier League match, he opened his account for the season, scoring his team's second in the final minute of normal time in a 2–0 victory over Hoverla Uzhhorod on July 14th. Shakhtar defeated Real Sociedad 4–0 in their penultimate group match of the Champions League on November 27, 2013. He scored once. In Shakhtar's next match, a league victory over Chornomorets, he scored the game's only goal.

Luiz Adriano scored both of his team's goals in their 2–0 victory over Dynamo Kyiv in the Ukrainian derby on April 16, 2014. Shakhtar came from a goal down to win 2–1 in Shakhtar's next Premier League match against city rivals Metalurh. Luiz Adriano scored the game-winning goal. Shakhtar clinched their fifth consecutive league title with a 3–1 win over Zorya Luhansk on May 11th. Luiz Adriano scored twice twice. Luiz Adriano scored both goals as Shakhakhtar defeated Volyn Lutsk 2–0 to finish as the top goal scorer with 20 goals in the season's final league match of the season on May 18th.

Luiz Adriano put Shakhtar ahead 2–0 with less than five minutes to play against Porto on September 30, but the Ukrainian champions regained the victory in the final minutes as two goals from Jackson Martnez ensured a 2–2 draw. Shakhtar defeated Volyn Lutsk 6–2 on October 17th, with Luiz Adriano scoring in either half and providing an assist for Alex Teixeira.

Luiz Adriano scored five goals in a Champions League match against Belarusian team BATE Borisov on October 21. Adriano's hat-trick took 11 minutes, the third fastest in the sport; he scored three goals in a seven-minute span; and his four first-half goals were a record for a player in the competition. He beat Andriy Vorobey to become Shakhtar's all-time top goalscorer with 117 goals, with his fourth and fifth goals of the season. Adriano also established himself as Europe's top goalscorer with his five goals, with 29 goals.

Luiz Adriano scored another hat-trick in Shakhtar's upcoming Champions League match, hosting BATE on November 5th, starting with a 58th-minute penalty, as his team defeated 5–0. In doing so, he became the first player to score back-to-back hat-tricks in the tournament.

Shakhtar finished second in its group in the 2014-15 Champions League group stage, thus qualifying for the knockout phase. Luiz Adriano equaled Messi's record of five goals in a Champions League match and equalled Cristiano Ronaldo's record of scoring nine goals in the group stage, triggering UEFA to designate him as the best player of the season's Champions League group stage phase.

Luiz Adriano signed for Milan on a five-year contract for a transfer fee of €8 million. Milan, on the other hand, paid an additional €6 million to unknown parties. He made his debut in the third round of Coppa Italia on August 17th, scoring the second goal of a 2–0 victory over Perugia at the San Siro in the second round. In a 2–1 home win over Empoli on September 29, he scored his first goal in Serie A in a 2-0 victory. Milan decided that for a reported fee of €14 million, Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning had agreed to sell Luiz Adriano. The agreement, on the other hand, could not be concluded because Luiz Adriano and Jiangsu Suning were unable to settle on personal terms during negotiations.

He began a long-term contract with FC Spartak Moscow on January 16th.

On July 30, 2019, he signed with Palmeiras on a four-year contract. In a 3–1 victory over Guarani on Friday, he scored his first hat-trick for the club.

Luiz Adriano was transferred from Antalyaspor on February 4, 2022, and signed a one-and-a-half-year deal.

International career

Luiz Adriano said in March 2013 that if asked, he would most likely give a call-up for Ukraine's national team. He did not have a Ukrainian passport when he was representing Brazil's youth team, making him ineligible to countries other than Brazil (or ancestral countries).

Luiz Adriano was called up to the Brazil national team for the first time in friendlies against Turkey and Austria in November. He made his debut against Turkey on November 12th, winning by 73 minutes in a 4–0 win before being replaced by fellow debutant Roberto Firmino.

After a brutal putdown, Man City's Erling Haaland has left Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards in stitches

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 15, 2023
After scoring five goals in Manchester City's 7-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig on Tuesday, Erling Haaland couldn't avoid shooting a dig at Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards. After a 1-1 draw in Germany three weeks ago, the Champions League last-16 tie looked to be on a knife edge going into the second leg, but Haaland's star performer put on a good showing, while Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne were also on the scoresheet. Haaland's third player after Lionel Messi and Brazilian forward Luiz Adriano to score five goals in a Champions League match, and Carragher, Richards, and Thierry Henry met after him to discuss his result.

Pep Guardiola jokes he denied Erling Haaland chance of double hat-trick to leave him with a 'target'

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 15, 2023
Manchester City defeated RB Leipzig 7-0 to make sure he still has at least one target left to chase, but Pep Guardiola joked that he took Erling Haaland off one goal shy of a double hat-trick. With five goals in 35 minutes, the Norwegian striker was the youngest player to reach 30 goals in the Champions League and the fastest to do so, joining only Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano in scoring five in a single Champions League match. Haaland scored his hat-trick in the first half, two minutes at first, followed by two more in the 53rd and 57th minutes, with Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne scoring the others as City defeated 8-1 on aggregate.
