Music career

Luciana Souza, a Grammy Award-winning singer and interpreter, is one of jazz's top performers and interpreters. Ms. Souza, who was born in Rio de So Paulo, Brazil, has pushed boundaries of musical styles in a new way. Ms. Souza has performed and recorded with Herbie Hancock, Paul Taylor, Bobby McFerrin, Maria Schneider, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, and many others. She has appeared in several important new works by composers Osvaldo Golijov, Patrick Zimmerli, Rachel Grimes, Sarah Grimes, Shara Nova, Caroline Shaw, and A Far Cry.

Ms. Souza has been recording and releasing celebrated albums since 2002, including her six Grammy-nominated albums Brazilian Duos, North and South, Duos II, Tide, Duos III, and The Book of Chet. The Book of Longing, Leonard Cohen's critically acclaimed ninth album for the Sunnyside label, features poems by Leonard Cohen, Emily Dickinson, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Christina Rossetti.

Ms. Souza began her singing career at the age of three with a radio commercial. She spent four years on faculty at Berklee College of Music, where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Composition. Ms. Souza received a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music and taught at the Manhattan School of Music for four years. The Jazz Journalists Association has twice named Ms. Souza as the Best Female Jazz Singer in 2005 and 2013.
