For her first appearances, she was a nominated walk-on in Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), which she discovered through a friend of her father's who was invited for dinner and discovered that Paluzzi might be a good choice. Negulesco had not been happy with the other actresses so far, but Paluzzi, who did not intend to become an actress, recited the English word the next day (it was the first English she spoke at that time), so she earned the job.
Paluzzi went on to appear in numerous films, the bulk of which were made in her native Italy. Luciana Paoluzzi appears in her early films as Luciana Paoluzzi.
In 1957, she went to England to star in the British war film No Time To Die (also known as Tank Force), alongside Victor Mature, where she was directed by Terence Young. Josita, a Spanish-born girl who is being fought over by Stanley Baker and Victor McLaglen's characters, was then cast in the British action drama Sea Fury as the Spanish-born Josita.

She had trained for the role of Dominetta "Domino" Petacchi, but the producers instead cast Claudine Auger, transforming her name from an Italian to a Frenchwoman, renaming her Dominique Derval. Paluzzi initially became crestfallen when she learned she did not qualify, but then discovered it was a member of Fiona Volpe, which she said was "more fun" to play. Paluzzi later said that being a Bond girl was a double-edged sword. Paluzzi expressed indignation at Thunderball's fame, fame, and esteem; however, she felt she was treated less seriously as an actress when returning to the Italian film industry.
