Career

Neal began his playing career at Stoke City, making his first appearance in the Football League Trophy against Scarborough on December 6, 2000. Before returning to Stoke, he went on loan to Icelandic side rótttabandaeyja. Before signing for Preston North End in 2005 in a player swap for Marlon Broomes, he played 70 league games and scored 2 goals for Stoke.

Neal signed a month-long loan contract with Notts County on October 31, 2008, marking his first visit to Bury.

After winning a remuneration deal, Neal, who had been playing 65 league games for Preston, was allowed to join Carlisle United on January 30, 2009. He has been on a sabbatical contract till the end of the season. In the 1–1 home draw against Walsall, he made his Carlisle debut, but after the season's end, boss Greg Abbott decided to keep him out.

Neal signed a two-year deal with Shrewsbury Town, just days after his deal came to an end.

He was released by Shrewsbury Town by mutual consent on January 22, 2011. He migrated to the United States and started training camp with Orlando City Soccer Club of the USL Pro league, the third tier of US Soccer. In a friendly against Philadelphia Union on 19 February, he scored the team's first goal. Lewis signed with Orlando on March 21, 2011.

Neal was on trial with Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer in early 2012, but was not offered a deal. On March 13, 2012, he entered the league with D.C. United. During his time in Washington, D.C., he scored the lone goal in the 2013 US Open Cup final against Real Salt Lake, giving D.C. their third Open Cup title to the country.

Neal, who spent three years in Washington, D.C., has returned to Florida after being chosen by new franchise Orlando City SC in the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft. At the end of the 2015 season, he was released by Orlando. Neal had resigned on a two-year contract, gave him an extended role in the company, including an academy coaching role, a playing position on the Orlando City B team, and media duties.

Neal continued his professional career by signing with the Orlando SeaWolves in May 2018, ahead of their inaugural Major Arena Soccer League season.

Neal rejoined former SeaWolves coach Tom Traxler by joining the coaching staff of the Central Florida Panthers SC of the National Premier Soccer League in March 2021.
