Len Boltaire Moreno Garcés (born 19 March 1953) is an Ecuadorian politician who is currently President of Ecuador and has been in office since May 2017.
Moreno served as Vice President from 2007 to 2013, and was under President Rafael Correa. In the 2017 presidential race, he was nominated as the candidate for Correa's PAIS Alliance, a centr-left, democratic centrist political party, and won a narrow victory in Ecuador's second round of voting on Sunday.
However, Moreno dramatically changed his political stance following his election, distancing himself from Corre's leftist roots and making neoliberal reforms, both domestic and foreign policy.
He was nominated for the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize for his advocacy for people with disabilities.
Moreno took office on May 24th, 2017 and was the world's first sitting head of state to use a wheelchair.
Education
Moreno studied at Universidad Nacional Meja (Mejia National Institute), the Colegio Nacional Benalcazar National Institute (Sebastian Benalcazar National School), and the Universidad Central del Ecuador (Central University of Ecuador), where he received a degree in Public Administration and was lauded as the best graduate. He studied psychology.
Moreno began his career in 1976 as the head of the Continental Professional Training Center. He went on to become the Director of OMC Publigerencia Andina, Satho's sales manager, and Zitro's marketing manager, both located in Ecuador. Since being in the public sector, he took over the Minister of Government in an administrative capacity. He spent time in the public tourism industry. He founded the Chamber of Tourism of Pichincha, Ecuador's province, and served as executive director of the National Federation of Tourism Chambers and executive director of the Chamber of Tourism of Pichincha between 1997 and 1999.
Moreno has been recognized by several organisations while serving as Vice President of Ecuador: the "Fray Jodoco Ricke" Award; the Order of the Sun of Peru in the rank of Grand Cross; and the Order of Merit to the Democracy, which were distributed by Peru's governments, Guatemala, and Colombia. Gran Collar Sebastian Benalcazar's order was also accepted unanimously by the Council of Quito. He has received many Honoris Causa awards from the University of the Americas (Ecuador), Universidad Tecnica del Ecuador (Technical University of Northern Ecuador), and the Universidad San Martin de Colombia (San Martin University of Colombia). Career
