Lena Meyer-Landrut Career

Career

Meyer-Landrut decided to compete in the Talent Show Unser Star for Oslo, a newly developed national television show to select the German entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. Public radio station ARD and private television station ProSieben, as well as entertainer, music arranger, and former Eurovision contestant Stefan Raab, were among the show's participants. Meyer-Landrut was chosen as one of the 20 show contestants out of a field of 4,500 applicants. When asked about her motivation to apply, she said, "I like to put myself to the test." I wanted to see how I am perceived, and I wanted to know what people with knowledge have to say about it. I can't even assess myself at all." Meyer-Landrut received a lot of praise from the show's jury jury after her first appearance as the guest of "My Same" by British singer Adele, and was quickly deemed the favourite. Adele's "My Same" debuts at number 61 in the German singles chart this week. Meyer-Landrut reached the final of Unser Star for Oslo, mainly performing lesser-known works by international artists The Bird and the Bee, Kate Nash, Paolo Nutini, and Lisa Mitchell. Five of the original songs charted in Germany, with only five of the original songs, "Foundations," achieving their highest chart position. Meyer-Landrut performed three songs specifically written for the occasion, "Bee," "Satellite," and "Love Me" in the final on March 12, 2010. The audience selected "Satellite," written by American Julie Frost and Dane John Gordon, to be her designated song in the case she won the show, after televoting. Meyer-Landrut was selected as Germany's entry in the 55th Eurovision Song Contest in a second round of voting, defeating Jennifer Braun, the last remaining contestant.

Meyer-Landrut was the clear favourite throughout the show. One day after winning Unser Star for Oslo, her three songs from the finals topped the German iTunes Store charts, making her the first female artist to do so. In the first week, "Satellite" became Germany's fastest-selling digital product ever. Her three songs have risen to the top of the German singles charts, debuting in positions one, three, and four. When the charts were first established in Germany in 1959, no artist had succeeded since the charts were first published. After the first week and platinum, "Satellite" was awarded gold and platinum. In Germany, the album remained at number one for five weeks in a row. "Satellite"'s music video was shot on the night of the final and premiered on German television stations four days later. Meyer-Landrut stayed at school after being competitive at Unser Star for Oslo. The last exhibition was held a month before her final exams were scheduled. On May 7, 2010, she announced My Cassette Player, her debut album after them. It includes the singles "Satellite," "Love Me," and "Bee," as well as two cover songs and eight unreleased titles, all produced by Stefan Raab. Meyer-Landrut is credited as a co-writer on five songs' lyrics. The album debuted at number one on the German charts, achieving the top of the charts. It reached number one on the Austrian albums chart and ranked third on the Swiss albums chart. The album has been awarded five times Gold for sales of over 500,000 units, including "Satellite."

Meyer-Landrut was automatically registered for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 final, representing a "Big Four" nation. During the running order draw, Germany was given a wild card, encouraging German politicians to pick the country's starting order. They ranked 22nd out of a total of 25 candidates for position 22. Meyer-Landrut arrived in Oslo one week before the show and concluded five rehearsals of her song "Satellite." She was deemed one of the top candidates going into the final. Bookmakers rated her as the second favorite behind Azerbaijan's Safura, while Google predicted she would win based on search volume in the participating countries. According to Aftenposten of Norway, she attracted the most media attention of all the participants. The final was held at Oslo's Telenor Arena on May 29th, 2010. Meyer-Landrut wore a simple black dress and performed on a bare stage with four backing singers, placing fourth from last. The pared-back presentation was a departure from recent Eurovision trends, as it did not include any choreography, dancers, or a complex stage display. "Satellite" won its first match since 1982 and the first victory as a united nation, giving Germany its first victory since 1982. The song gained 76 points over Turkey's entry "We Could Be the Same" in the Eurovision, the second largest in Eurovision history, second only to Alexander Rybak's margin of 169 points in the 2009 edition. (It will be eclipsed by Loreen's victory in 2012, a margin of 113 points). "Satellite" was awarded the highest score nine times nine times and was given accolades from all but five countries. "Satellite" on the BBC was the first "contemporary pop hit Eurovision has produced in decades," the first "contemporary pop hit Eurovision has delivered in decades," ushering in "a new age for the annual music jamboree." Meyer-Landrut's victory attracted a lot of attention in Germany, and the show was seen by 15 million viewers on German television (a 49.1 percent market share). She returned to Hanover the next day, where she was welcomed by 40,000 people. "Satellite" regained the top spot on the German singles chart for one week in June, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland, and Switzerland ranked No. 1 in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. It also topped the European Hot 100 singles charts, becoming the first Eurovision song to do so.

Meyer-Landrut's twelve songs on her second studio album Good News, which was released on February 8, 2011, were recorded during her second studio album Good News. Within a week after its debut, the album in Germany gained Gold status. The Unser Song for Deutschland final was held on February 18, 2011. Meyer-Landrut would perform the entry "Taken by a Stranger" in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Her first German tour of the country's biggest concert halls was in Berlin, Hanover, Frankfurt, Dortmund, Leipzig, Munich, Stuttgart, and Cologne in April 2011, but the concerts were not sold out. Meyer-Landrut defended her title in May 2011 at Düsseldorf for the second time in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest. She was the third female winner to do so, and the first in over 50 years. She performed the song "Taken by a Stranger" and ranked 10th. She appeared in the first performance of the exhibition, just less than an hour before she took the stage to represent Germany.

Meyer-Landrut performed as part of the interval act during the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan's second semi-finals. Marija erifovi, Dima Bilan, Alexander Rybaki, and Ell & Nikki were among the five Eurovision winners from 2007 to 2011, which included Marija erifovi, Dima Bilan, Alexander Rybaki, and Ell & Nikki. Meyer-Landrut, Marija, Dima, and Alexander performed their top song entries accompanied by traditional Azeri instruments, and Ell & Nikki joined them in a rendition of "Waterloo." Lenas Wohnzimmer, a German advertising tour, took her to Munich, Cologne, Hamburg, and Berlin in late July and early August. Several of her new songs were performed.
