Early life
Cairns was born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, and grew up in Kamloops. When she broke her back in a car crash at 16, she was denied the possibility of becoming a professional dancer. After her dance squad qualified for an international competition in her graduating year, rather than sit at home, she decided to travel Costa Rica and then began a backpacking trip that took her to 36 countries and took her eight years. She took an improvisation class at an ashram in India before returning to Canada.
Career
Cairns appeared in Robson Arms before winning a Leo Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series in 2006. Emily Hollander appeared in Sanctuary on ABC Family's Kyle XY and appeared in Sanctuary during BSG's season three. On the silver screen, she appeared in 88 Minutes and played Lois in Interstellar.
