Larry Sanger Life

Lawrence Mark Sanger (born July 16, 1968) is an American internet project designer and co-founder of Wikipedia, which he referred to and wrote a large part of the initial governing policy.

He has worked on other online education portals, including Nupedia, Citizendium, Everipedia, and the Encyclosphere. He joined the online encyclopedia Nupedia as editor-in-chief in 2000, having an interest in using the internet for education during college.

Dissatisfied with Nupedia's sluggish growth, he suggested a wiki to solicit and submit papers to submit via Nupedia's peer-review process, which resulted in the creation and appearance of Wikipedia in 2001.

In the beginnings, he served as Wikipedia's community leader, but he became disillusioned with the initiative and dropped it in 2002. Since being kicked out of Wikipedia, he has been critical of the venture, arguing that, despite its merits, Wikipedia lacks credibility due to a lack of respect for knowledge and authority.

In 2006, he founded Citizendium, which later became a competitor to Wikipedia.

His status as a co-founder of Wikipedia has been brought into question by fellow co-founder Jimmy Wales, but Wikipedia is generally accepted. Sanger's primary interests have been concentrated outside of the internet, specifically epistemology, early modern philosophy, and ethics.

At his alma mater, Ohio State University, he taught philosophy.

Early life and education

Lawrence Mark Sanger was born in Bellevue, Washington, on July 16, 1968. Gerry, his father, was a marine biologist who studied seabirds, and his mother raised the children. His family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he grew up when he was seven years old. He was interested in philosophical topics from an early age and decided "to study philosophy and make it my life's work" at the age of 16.

He participated in debate in high school, which Sanger claims influenced his views on neutrality because of these debates that introduced him to a variety of topics and arguments from both directions.

Sanger graduated from high school in 1986 and enrolled Reed College, majoring in philosophy. In college, he became interested in the Internet and its potential as a publishing house. Sanger created a listserver to "serve as a forum for discussion of tutorials, teaching methods, and the possibility and benefits of a non-profit group of individual tutors and students learning together in the Internet for education outside of the traditional university setting." The Association for Systematic Philosophy, which began and moderated a libertarian philosophy discussion list. Sanger wrote a manifesto for the discussion group in 1994:

Sanger's first encounter with Jimmy Wales on Wales' mailing list titled Moderated Discussion of Objectivist Philosophy (MDOP).

Sanger received a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Reed in 1991, a Master of Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1995, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Ohio State University in 2000. "Sanger and Shannon's Analysis of Y2K News Reports," a website that served as a resource for people like administrators of computer networks that were concerned about the year 2000 issue began in 1998.

Personal life

He moved to San Diego in February 2000, when Sanger was recruited by Wales to create Nupedia. In December 2001, he was married in Las Vegas. In 2005, he and his wife moved to Santa Cruz, California, to work for Digital Universe. Sanger lives in Columbus, Ohio, on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio, as of 2015. He lives with his wife and two sons, who are both homeschooled, as of 2021.

Sanger was raised as a Lutheran and attended a Sunday school, but he became an agnostic when his family stopped going to church on a Sunday. Sanger, who portrayed himself as "a typical American cross-breed" in 2016 (lots of English, German, and French)" (ethnically).

Sanger promotes the theory of "baby reading." He started teaching his son to read before his second birthday and shared videos on the internet to demonstrate this. Sanger is best known for his passion for Irish traditional music.

In a piece on 'Gender Queer' by Time magazine, the author's pronouns are ridiculed

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 2, 2022
Author Maia Kobabe (right), who wrote the book 'Gender Queer: A Memoir,' (inset), was referred to in the TIME Magazine article by using the 'em/eir' pronouns. On Twitter (left), scholars, journalists, and comedians all slammed the magazine for promoting 'unintelligible' words. The essay focused on the controversy surrounding Kobabe's book, which describes and illustrates sexual offences, and it came a day after a judge in Virginia dismissed a case that had sought to prohibit the distribution of 'Gender Queer' as obscene for children and restricted it to minors. 'The TIME writer wrote an illustrated graphic novel by Kobabe, who uses e/em/eir pronouns, discusses the eir process of becoming out as nonbinary and asexual.' The article was also promoted on Twitter by TIME magazine author and illustrator Maia Kobabe on 'Gender Queer', the drive to limit access to eir writing, and what ey thinks of the current cultural moment.' Wikipedia co-founders, journalists, and authors slammed TIME magazine for using'made-up' pronouns to complement a 'narcissist's 'whims.'
