David Alkiviades was born in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 1968, to a Greek Cypriot trading and shipping family. Andrew A. David (1934-1960-1999-1954–2000), his father, was born in Petra, Cyprus, and went on to study business at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Andrew A. David joined the Leventis-David Group in Ghana, where he managed the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in Accra in 1957.
David went to high school in Switzerland and studied film at the Royal College of Art.

David has been married three times and divorced twice, and has two sons, Andrew and Alexander, with his first wife. Emma McAllister, his second wife, married her in 2004 and divorced in 2009. He is married to Jennifer Stano, a swimsuit designer and former model who founded Have Faith Swimwear with David in Beverly Hills, California, in 2011. David was arrested in St. Kitts in May 2019 after a US$1.5 million worth of cannabis was discovered on his personal plane.
Career
He co-founded Independent Models, a London modelling company, whose models included Helena Christensen in 1998.
