Lara Jill Miller (born April 20, 1967) is an American actress best known for her appearance on the 1980s sitcom Gimme a Break as Samantha "Sam" Kanisky. Kathy on The Amanda Show as Kathy.

Miller was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on April 20, 1967, to Lois (née Noll; 1937-2014) and Stanley Miller. She is Jewish. She first appeared in a newspaper ad, but she had no idea what audition meant. She asked her dad what that meant, and he told her. She graduated from William Allen High School in Allentown. Her father, a pajama factory owner, and her mother founded Star Talent Management, a recruitment firm.
Personal life
Miller's mother was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a progressive brain disorder, in 2006, requiring her to leave her employment agency; Miller has since helped raise concerns of the condition.
Career
Miller's professional acting career began on Broadway, where she appeared as Amaryllis in a revival of The Music Man with Dick Van Dyke.
After her appearance on Broadway, she joined Gimme a Break! in 1981, portraying Samantha "Sam" Kanisky opposite Nell Carter. Miller returned to New York University, where she competed on the university's women's varsity tennis team and continued competing on television in 1989, when the series came to an end. She received her J.D. four years ago. Degree from Fordham University School of Law, allowing early graduation to portray Peter Pan in a play at the Pennsylvania Youth Theatre. She was later accepted to practice law in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, as she was born in New Jersey.
Miller revived her on-camera acting career in 1999 with recurring appearances on Nickelodeon's The Amanda Show and All That and General Hospital. She began appearing in animated films, including Kari in Digimon (both the series and the film), Koko in Astro Boy, Alejo in Astro Boy, and Scheris Adjani in s-CRY-ed. Dorothy Gale of Oz appeared in L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, as well as the voices of the title characters on Cartoon Network's The Life and Times of Juniper Lee, Disney Junior's Henry Hugglemonster and PBS Kids' Puppy Days (prequel to Clifford the Big Red Dog).
