Kristoff St. John (July 15, 1966 – February 3, 2019) was an American actor.

From 1991 to 2019, St. John portrayed Neil Winters on CBS daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless, earning him eleven Daytime Emmy Award nominations, two Emmy Awards, and ten NAACP Image Awards.

Early life

Kristoff St. John was born in New York City on July 15, 1966, and grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Los Angeles. Christopher St. John, his father, is a producer, actor, and director, while his mother, Marie, is an entertainer.

Personal life

St. John was married and divorced twice. Julian (1989–2014) and his daughter Paris Nicole (born 1992) married his first wife, boxer Mia St. John. Julian died by suicide on November 23, 2014, after a long history of mental illness. From 2001 to 2007, St. John was married to Allana Nadal, and they had Lola, a daughter born April 15, 2003. On August 31, 2018, he was engaged to Russian model Kseniya Mikhaleva.

St. John was a vegan and animal rights activist; he appeared in two PETA ad campaigns.

On February 3, 2019, at the age of 52, St. John died at his Los Angeles, California home. His death was accidental, owing to his hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Career

St. John, a ten-year-old boy, appeared on the Saturday-morning comedy Big John, Little John, which was broadcast on NBC in 1976. In the 1979 ABC miniseries Roots: The Next Generations, St. John portrayed a young Alex Haley. On the ABC sitcom Happy Days, he made a small appearance as Booker Brown, as well as Denise Huxtable's boyfriend on a young episode of The Cosby Show. In 1985 CBS sitcom Charlie & Co.'s Charlie Richmond Jr. played Charlie Richmond Jr. in his first big role.

Adam Marshall of St. John's first big soap role was on the NBC soap opera Generations. Since the show's cancellation in 1991, he took on Neil Winters on The Young and the Restless, and spent 28 years as St. John; no African American actor appeared on the series more often than St. John. He received the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 1992 for his role. He appeared on CBS Soap Break on September 5, 1994.

St. John became a special host for the TV Guide Channel in 2005. He received his fifth Daytime Emmy Award in 2007. He was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor. St. John received his second Daytime Emmy Award in 2008 as the Outstanding Support Actor in a Drama Series.

A Man Called God, a documentary co-directed by St. John and his father Christopher St. John, premiered at the San Diego Black Film Festival in 2014. The film was also chosen at other festivals, including the American Documentary Film Festival and the Beverly Hills Film Festival.

Kristoff's last appearance as Neil aired on February 6, 2019. Neil had died of a stroke in April, but it was announced later in the month.

After stripping and meditating in a supermarket, Kristoff St. John's daughter and professional boxer Mia St. John were arrested on Monday. According to an affidavit seen by TMZ, Paris St. John, 30, was arrested after police responded to calls that a woman was naked, praying and meditating in a WinCo in Boise, Idaho, around 8 p.m. St. John was arrested and taken back to the Ada County Jail, where she later appeared to have attempted to escape, requiring police to bring her to the ground.
