Acting career

Shibasaki debuted in 2000 as she portrayed Mitsuko Souma, the cold and deadly part of the cult classic film Battle Royale. Shibasaki has also received critical acclaim for her role as Tsubaki Sakurai in the 2001 film Go, which earned her several awards, including the Best Supporting Actress Award of the Japanese Academy, the Huff Prize, and the Kinema Junp Award.

Shibasaki made her American debut in 47 Ronin, a Keanu Reeves-led adaptation of Chushingura's classic tale of samurai loyalty and revenge. The film was billed as the first English-language adaptation of the legend based on historical events of the early 18th century. In 2017, she appeared as Ii Naotora in the NHK Taiga drama television series Naotora: The Lady Warlord. Shibasaki visited Naotora's grave before the series was shot.

Shibasaki also has two musical groups: Koh+ (with Masaharu Fukuyama) and Galaxias! (With Deco*27 and TeddyLoid).

Shibasaki made her debut in the music industry in 2002 with her first album, "Trust My Feelings," but she was praised for her second single, "Tsuki no Shizuku," which was used in the film Yomigaeri.

Although she does not compose her own music, K. Shibasaki writes the lyrics for the majority of her songs. Many of her songs have been turned into theme songs for various films, dramas, and commercials. The ending theme song for the live action drama "Otomen" was "Lover Soul."
