Kool Moe Dee Career

Career

Being part of the first big rap war in history was one of Kool Moe Dee's first accomplishments. Busy Bee was lyrically insulted during one of his appearances in 1981. Busy Bee was outraged for smacking about other MC's, and he was determined that no one of them could beat him in a contest. "The New Rap Language" and "Whip It" were used by Moe Dee to illustrate some of his rhymes. During the war, he also had a little bit of Busy Bee's style. The Treacherous Three Dissenters disbanded in 1985. He went solo in 1986, releasing a self-titled album that debuted on Billboard at 83. After meeting a young up-and-coming artist at Sugar Hill Records by the name of Lavaba Mallison, who would later become his boss, Kool Moe Dee left Sugar Hill Records to join Lavaba Mallison, Robert "Gusto" Wells, Greg Marius, and up-andcoming producer Teddy Riley at the newly formed ROOFTOP records. He co-operated with Teddy Riley and Lavaba Mallison, assisting with the new jack swing movement, which would gain traction in the years to come.

Kool Moe Dee released his second album, How Ya Like Me Now, his most commercially successful album, receiving platinum status. He went on to release Knowledge Is King, his third album, in 1989, which went gold. He appeared on Quincy Jones' album Back on the Block in 1990, alongside fellow rappers Melle Mel, Big Daddy Kane, and Ice-T. The album won the 1991 Grammy Award for Album of the Year, earning significant critical and financial recognition. Funke Wisdom, Kool Moe Dee's demise in 1991 was revealed. This was Moe Dee himself's worst collection. In 1992, he induced his release from Jive Records. After a two-year absence, he released his greatest hits album, which reclaimed some of his former fame and acclaim. His album Interlude was released in 1994 and failed to earn Moe Dee much of his former fame in the mid 1980s. He reunited with his fellow Treacherous Three fellows in 1993 to unveil the album Old School Flava on Ichiban. Moe Dee was last seen in the MTV box office bombing of Crossroads as a bartender, and was listed as a bartender in the MTV box office bomber "Love Love/What You Want" on Spoiled Brat Entertainment Inc.

Kool Moe Dee was once rivalry with fellow New York rapper LL Cool J. LL had stolen their rap styles, according to Kool Moe Dee, as well as other rappers such as MC Shan. He also felt that LL was disrespecting rap legends such as Melle Mel and Grandmaster Caz by announcing that he was "rap's new grandmaster" without owing due respect to those who came before him. On the single of the same name, he challenged LL on his platinum-selling album How Ya Like Me Now. He also took a shot at LL by appearing on the album cover with a jeep in the background, with the wheel crushing one of LL's signature red Kangol hats. Although both bands clashed musically, and some of them could debate vociferously, they both received a lot of praise from hip hop culture. The feud rage raged, with both MCs claiming to be the victors.

He began in 2017 as executive producer and host of Behind The Rhyme, a digital talk show series that includes an interview with a hip-hop celebrity or current celebrity. Chuck D, front man of Public Enemy and supergroup Prophets of Rage were included in the premiere episode in June 2020. Ann Carli and Devin DeHaven, who also produces the series, executive produced the show.
