Khadyjah Fofanah (born 21 June 1980 in Koidu Town, Sierra Leone) is a Sierra Leonean rastafarian and Roots reggae performer best known by her stage name Khady Black. She is Sierra Leone's first female reggae artist. Khady Black performs mainly in English, Krio, and in her native Mandinka dialect. Many people think of Black as a social activist whose songs address key issues confronting Sierra Leone's youth and specifically women, due to her style of singing. Khady Black's lyrics, which poke fun of daily life situations such as calling for education of youths in her "Mr. * Government" album and teasing black women of wearing skin-lightening creams in "Cosmetic Girls," are a tribute to Khady Black's satirical genius. Khady Black, like other Rastafarians, is a huge fan of Jamaican international Reggae star Bob Marley. Khady Black's latest and highly awaited album, Flying With Jah Love, is set to be released by the end of the year. Khady Black debuted her debut album Mr. Government at the National Stadium in Freetown in June 2005, in front of thousands of fans. * The album was a huge hit in Sierra Leone and around the world.
