Kenneth Joel Hotz (born May 3, 1967) is a Canadian designer, radio presenter, and entertainer.

Hotz is a former South Park staff writer, "Kenny" of Comedy Central television show Kenny vs. Spenny, the FX series Testees, and Kenny Hotz' Triumph of the Will.

He has received numerous international accolades for his film, television, and digital media.

Hotz is an award-winning Vice Presenter.

He began his career as a photographer and Gulf War photojournalist.

Early life and education

Hotz was born to a Jewish family and graduated from the Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. Hotz graduated from Ryerson University's Media Arts program in 1992. Spencer Rice was a student at Hotz' high school, and the pair went on to direct films together and create Kenny vs. Spence.

Personal life

Hotz describes himself as an atheist. He can speak Hebrew.

Hotz is Joni Mitchell's godson.

Career

Hotz began as a documentary filmmaker and news photographer, delivering photo essays on topics ranging from Auschwitz, Dachau, and the Gulf War. Hotz was the first registered Canadian photojournalist to cover the Gulf War. Several of Needle Park's additional photo essays include: After Nicolae Ceauşescu and New Year's Eve 2000 in Times Square, Stephen Koresh, Mount Carmel, Romanian orphanages. Both national and provincial archives have acquired his work for their collections.

Hotz and Spencer Rice produced the 18-minute short film It Don't Cost Nothin' to Say Good Morning.

Hotz produced and starred (with Rice) in the 1996 film Pitch, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 1997. Several cameos, including Al Pacino, Samuel Z. Arkoff, and Neil Simon appeared in the film.

He co-wrote an episode of Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation with Rice, 1997, titled Truce or Consequences.

Hotz and his long-time writing partner Rice moved to Los Angeles, where they collaborated on the production of Kenny vs. Spenny.

Hotz appeared in his second feature film titled The Papal Chase, a documentary about Hotz's attempt to visit Pope John Paul II, which was released in 2004. At the 2004 Whistler Film Festival, the film received the People's Choice Award for Best Canadian Feature Film, as well as the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Brooklyn International Film Festival.

Kenny vs. Spenny first appeared on CBC Television in 2003 and went on to be nominated for eight Gemini awards. The original pilot had been hired by USA Network, but the show never aired before it was picked up by the CBC for 26 episodes. As they competed against each other in tournaments, Hotz and friend Spencer Rice came to a "humiliation" in the series. Hotz's behaviour in the episode Who Can Piss Off More People, where he paid to have a plane fly over Toronto carrying a banner that reads "Jesus Sucks." Despite the fact that he said his friend Jesus was getting married and that it was not geared toward a particular faith. Since the nationally funded CBC censored two episodes of Kenny vs. Spenny, refusing to air them on their website, the show went from CBC to Showcase TV in Canada.

Hotz developed the idea for Versusville, which was also nominated for a Canadian New Media Award for Excellence in Gaming in 2004.
