After being recruited to play basketball, Jeremiah Armstead, 19, began his freshman year at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, earlier this month. When he and his mother (inset), brother, and sister returned to California, the teen was a sophomore in high school. When fighting housing insecurity, the four families have spent the past three years sleeping in their cars and domestic violence shelters. His classmates were unaware that he didn't have a house and often wondered why he would be dropped off at 7 eleven. Armstead, who graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School this spring, was at a friend's house when he learned he was accepted into Fisk. At the historically black college, he is studying kinesiology.
