Career
Hu modeled in Japan and Italy and became well-known in the latter as the protagonist of a string of television commercials for Philadelphia brand cream cheese, portraying a young Japanese college student named Kaori.
In 1993, Hu became the first Miss Hawaii USA state champion to win a Miss USA state championship. Hu won the preliminary interview competition and finished second and third in both swimsuit and evening gown in the 1993 Miss USA pageant, held in Wichita, Kansas. She then finished second in the top ten evening gown competition and second in swimsuit, winning the top ten evening gown competition and placing second in first. She was disqualified in fourth place after the judges' questions, just over a point from the final three.
