Kate Jones Career

Political career

Jones served as a Senior Media Advisor to Queensland Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, Robert Schwarten, and as Media Adviser to former Queensland Treasurer David Hamill before entering Parliament.

Jones was elected to state Parliament in 2006 for the seat of Ashgrove, replacing Jim Fouras, who served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in the 1990s. She was named Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability in the incoming Bligh cabinet after holding her position in the 2009 election and replacing Andrew McNamara.

Jones stepped down from cabinet on June 19, 2011 to concentrate on defending her position against newly elected LNP leader Campbell Newman at the 2012 state election.

Jones used lolly-pink branding rather than Labour's shade of red; this tactic was based on Kevin Rudd's approach during the campaign; Jones' supporters were sent pink T-shirts with the phrase "Keep Kate."

Jones was disqualified in the LNP's historic victory at the time, suffering a 13.4% swing as part of the LNP's stunning triumph. Newman became Premiership.

Jones attempted to regain her old seat in the state election in January 2015. She won, defeating Newman on a ten percent swing—more than double what she needed. She was the second attempt to depose a sitting premier in Queensland since 1915.

Ashgrove was abolished prior to the 2017 state election, so Jones contested and gained the new seat of Cooper.

Jones was elected Minister of Education, Minister of Tourism, Major Events, and Small Business Minister in the Palaszczuk Ministry on February 16, 2015, a position she held until 11 December 2017.

On December 12, 2017, she was elected Minister for Innovation and Tourism Promotion as well as Minister for the Commonwealth Games.

Jones resigned on September 10, 2020, the last sitting day before the 2020 Queensland state election in October.

Furious woman hits out at ASDA as she says her sister was charged £394.50 for just two limes in her online shop - and the supermarket even rejected a refund at first

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 20, 2024
Lucy Watson, a Brit who is currently living in New York City, has a sister named Katy in the UK who logged onto the website to order a food shop. Upon first glance, Katy's list appears to look normal, ordering Gala Apples that cost £1.69 and a pack of bananas for 94p. However, she claimed her card was charged £394.50 for two loose limes, which should have cost just 50p. But when Katy realised the error and asked the supermarket giant for a refund, her request appeared to be rejected, according to a screenshot Lucy shared online.

I was charged £533 for two orange peppers: Shopper reveals how supermarket's 'technical error' left her overdrawn and incurring bank charges

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 13, 2024
But when she looked at her bank balance two days later, she noticed an extra charge had been added, bringing the total up to £626 for the shop. Ms Jones, who is a wheelchair user and said shopping online is an 'absolute lifeline', had been charged £533.36 for two orange peppers which should cost 59p each. She reached out to ASDA who agreed to refund Ms Jones and claimed a 'technical error' was responsible for the inflated cost of the peppers. But one week on and she is still waiting to be compensated and is incurring overdraft charges from her bank.
