Millionaire conwoman, 57, who scammed military out of over $100 million before splurging on 31 homes and 80 cars in 'biggest ever US Army scam' agrees to plead guilty

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 1, 2024
In one of the biggest fraud cases the military has ever seen, Janet Yamanaka Mello, 57, reportedly stole millions of dollars from military pensions and blew it on jewelry, clothing, luxurious cars, and real estate. The hustler was employed by the United States Army in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, as a CYS Financial Program Manager and reportedly established Child Health and Youth Lifelong Development in 2016. She used the company to fraudulently swindle money that was supposed to go to the children of army service employees and instead used the funds to finance her luxurious lifestyle. However, her scheme came crashing down in January as federal prosecutors collaborated with army investigators as they assembled the pieces of the puzzle together in January - well before Mello was criminally charged in December 2023. According to the signed reports, the alleged conwoman stole $108 million in less than seven years using her fake vender.

If she were found guilty, a Texas 'conwoman', 57, who was accused of scamming the Army out of $100 million and using cash to buy 31 homes as well as 78 luxury cars, has decided to forfeit it all if she were ever guilty

If Janet Mello, 57, is found guilty of one of the largest frauds in military history, she could forfeit her impressive portfolio of 31 mansions and 78 supercars, including Teslas and Aston Martins. She is accused of swindling over $100 million from the US military. Prosecutors claim she earned money from the military for her extravagant purchases while being a civilian financial program manager at Fort Sam Army Base. Mello has pleaded not guilty to a slew of charges relating to the alleged scheme, including mail fraud and identity theft, and court documents have seen police threaten to return the luxury items if convicted. Mello was released without bail following her arraignment in December, and her court date is set later this month.
