Julio Baghy (13 January 1891, Szeged; 18 March 1967, Budapest; in Hungarian Baghy Gyula) was a Hungarian singer and one of the Esperanto movement's leading writers.
He is the author of many well-known books, but it is in poetry that he established his mastery of Esperanto.
Early life
Baghy was born into a theatre family — his father was an actor and his mother was a stage steward. He began learning Esperanto in 1911. He began working as an actor and theatre manager, but the First World War intervened and took him out of his home country for six years.
In Siberia, he was captured and made a prisoner of war. He began to work for the Esperanto movement, writing poetry and teaching the terminology to his fellow prisoners at the time.
