Jules Irving Life

Jules Irving (né Julius Israel, 1925–1979), an American actor, lecturer, and producer who co-founded the San Francisco Actor's Workshop in the 1950s.

Irving was born in 1966, and he became the first Producing Director of the Vivian Beaumont Theater of Lincoln Center in New York City. The Actor's Workshop was the first West Coast theater to sign an Equity "Off-Broadway" deal in 1955.

Irving began the Workshop with fellow New Yorker Herbert Blau, whom he knew from undergraduate days at New York University and then during graduate studies at Stanford University.

Both men were professors at San Francisco State University, Irving, and Blau in English, helping to inspire what Irving described as a "lost generation" of Jewish immigrants, despite a degree of religious skepticism inculcated by bizarre bearded Russian/Yiddish-speaking rabbinical teachers who dis-inculcated what Irving called a "lost generation" of Jewish immigrants, who were aided in this by bizarre burresque instructors who were active in George S.

He joined the army in 1943, serving in the infantry during the Battle of the Bulge and as a Russian translator when his unit met Soviet forces.

After V-E Day, he moved to Special Services, where he could honed his theater leadership skills as he curated camp shows under Joshua Logan.

Personal life

Irving married actress Priscilla Pointer, to whom he remained married until his death in 1979. The couple had three children, including director David Irving and actress Amy Irving. Pointer remarried a year later, to Robert Symonds, who had been Irving's production partner at Lincoln Center.
