JP Duminy Career

Early career

Duminy is a highly skilled batsman, a versatile fielder, and a handy change bowler. He appeared on the Southern Africa under-19s tour to England in 2003 and the 2003-2004 domestic season, where he averaged over 72, two years after breaking into South Africa's Western Province side. Despite the fact that he bowls less often in One Day Internationals, he has also found success with the ball, making his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2004.

International career

Duminy, the injured vice-captain, made his Test debut against Australia at the WACA in Perth on December 17, scoring 50* in the second innings and establishing an unbroken century partnership with AB de Villiers. Several commentators, including Peter Roebuck, lauded his work. Duminy scored his maiden Test century by combining with the tailenders in a 166-run Test match. South Africa were more than 200 runs behind when they lost their seventh wicket in the first innings. He and Dale Steyn developed an incredible partnership against Australia, beating Graeme and Peter Pollock's South African ninth wicket partnership record against Australia. South Africa gained a 62-run lead and turned it into a nine-wicket victory. This was the first time South Africa had won a Test series in Australia, and Australia's first home Test series loss in 16 years. In the 3rd Test of the same tour, he took his first Test wicket.

Duminy became the second batsman in a World Cup match after Adam Gilchrist was disqualified for 99. Duminy became the first South African to take a hat-trick in a World Cup match during the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. Angelo Mathews was dismissed with the last ball of an over, but Nuwan Kulasekara and Tharindu Kaushal were dismissed with the first two balls of his next over. When the pair scored 256 runs in an unbeaten partnership in the World Cup, he and David Miller set the record for the highest fifth wicket partnership in ODI history. During the first Test against Australia in Perth on Friday, Duminy scored his fifth Test century, the second highest partnership for South Africa against Australia.

Faf du Plessis sustained an injury during his third ODI against Bangladesh in October 2017, resulting in his suspension from the T20I series. For this series, Duminy was named T20I captain.

Duminy was included in South Africa's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April 2019. After playing his team's last group stage match against Australia, Duminy retired from international cricket.

Domestic and T20 franchise career

After the Mumbai Indians franchise bought Duminy for US$950,000, he was playing in the Indian Premier League in 2009. In the tournament, he scored two half-centuries. Duminy began to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Deccan Chargers, and he was named captain of the Delhi Daredevils in 2015. He was purchased back by Mumbai Indians for the 2018 season and then unveiled ahead of the 2019 IPL auction.

He appeared in the Pakistan Super League for the first time in 2018, where he captained the team to the league championship. He helped the Winnipeg Hawks win the 2019 Global T20 Canada Championship, with Duminy named Player of the Tournament during which he was the top run scorer. When he played for Barbados Tridents in the 2019 Caribbean Premier League, he was in his final T20 tournament.
