Life and career
Kosinski grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Patricia (née Prosinski) of French-Canadian descent (née Prosinski) and Joel Kosinski, a Polish descent doctor.
Tron: Legacy, the special effects-heavy film, was his first major film. With a release date of December 2010, the film was in Disney Digital 3-D and IMAX 3D.
He began writing a film review that would eventually develop into an unpublished graphic novel by the name Oblivion for Radical Comics after heading to Los Angeles in 2005. Walt Disney Pictures obtained the rights to the film in August 2010. William Monahan was involved in the screenplay for a film adaptation. In March 2011, it was announced that Karl Gajdusek would rewrite the script. Attempts to keep the film with a PG rating were fruitless, with Disney giving up the rights that had been leased by Universal Pictures and settling on a PG-13 rating. Oblivion began filming in March 2012, with Tom Cruise in the lead role, and was released in April 2013.
In early 2015, Kosinski was confirmed to direct the third Tron film, but it was announced that Disney had cancelled the project in May of the same year. He directed Only the Brave, a film based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots (wildland firefighters), and he was born in 2017. In June 2017, it was revealed that he was going to direct the sequel to Top Gun, titled Top Gun: Maverick. He was hired to oversee Twister's revival in June 2020, which was announced by Universal Pictures, the original film's international distributor.
Kosinski is also planned to produce an untitled Formula One racing film, reteaming with Top Gun: Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriter Ehren Kruger are among Maverick's top gun contributors, and racing driver Lewis Hamilton is also slated as producer. Brad Pitt will appear in the project, which was acquired by Apple Studios in June 2022, for at least 30 days before it was broadcast on Apple TV+.
Kosinski has appeared in numerous as-now-unmade projects, including remakes of '70s science fiction films Logan's Run, The Black Hole, the science-fiction film Archangels, Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers's untitled action-thriller, and The Twilight Zone, which include remakes of '70s science-fiction films Logan's Run, the science-fiction film Logan's Run, Stephen C. Rogers'
Kosinski, alumnus of Columbia University's School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), is now an adjunct professor of architecture, where he supports students in 3D modeling and graphics. In 2008, he talked about his architecture, pushing the boundaries of industry, and eventually moving to feature films.
