He made his senior debut for the Llanelli Scarlets area before his first appearance for the senior Llanelli team against Northampton Saints on August 11, 2006. However, he didn't score his first attempt against Connacht on September 28th, 2006, he took his sixth appearance (more than a year later) before scoring his first attempt.
Davies joined French club Clermont Auvergne in the Top 14 on a two-year contract on November 12, 2013.
Davies returned from Clermont Auvergne from Clermont Auvergne on a national dual contract with the Welsh Rugby Union on November 13, 2015.
International career
Davies was given his first call up to the Welsh senior team in 2009 for their mid-year tour of North America. He made his international debut in the first game of the tour, starting outside center against Canada on May 30, 2009. He also participated in the match against the United States and scored two tries.
Davies was one of four Scarlets named in Wales' 29-man squad for the 2009 Autumn internationals, thanks to his appearance and form for the Scarlets. Davies was back on the bench against Samoa on November 13th, replacing the injured Tom Shanklin after 49 minutes after being named as an ineffective substitute for the New Zealand game on November 7th. Davies was selected to partner Jamie Roberts against Argentina on November 21 with Shanklin hospitalized. Despite Wales' victory, it was an error by Davies that resulted in Argentina's sole try; Davies attempted to kick the ball forward, but Martn Rodr n Rodro got it back in himself for the attempt. Nevertheless, Davies and Roberts developed a strong partnership in the middle of the game for the majority of the game, while Argentina was otherwise restricted to penalty goals. Davies saved his number 12 jersey for the final match of the series against Australia, despite his mistake; the opposition lost the match 33-12.
Davies was named in the 35-man Wales squad for the 2010 Six Nations tournament on January 18th. However, he was not selected in the 22-man squad for any of Wales' five matches in the competition. On his summer tour of New Zealand, he returned to Wales as a substitute for Jamie Roberts for the last ten minutes of the first Test on June 19th. Davies and Roberts revived their center partnership following Andrew Bishop's injury before the second Test, but this time Davies took the outside position. Davies led one of Wales' best attacks of the season, but rather than offloading to one of three supporting runners with the line at their mercy, they went solo for the goal line.
Davies was also selected in the Wales squad for the Autumn international series on October 21, 2010, but he was not selected for any of the games by a combination of James Hook, Tom Shanklin, and Andrew Bishop.
Davies was named in Wales' preliminary World Cup squad following a 2011 6-Nations series in which he returned as a starting center. Davies attended both notorious training camps in Spala, Poland, and was subsequently named as one of four centers. He participated in all three of the team's pre-tournament tests against England, both home and away, as well as Argentina at home.
Davies was involved in every Welsh game from the first fixture against South Africa to Australia's third-place play-off loss, building a formidable centre team team alongside Jamie Roberts during the 2011 World Cup.
Davies was called back to the Scarlets squad for their first Heineken Cup pool game against Castres. Davies, who lives in the United Kingdom and Australia, rose to international prominence in the ranks of high-quality Welsh centers, enjoying a fruitful 2011.
Davies was a member of the Wales team that won the Championship in 2012, winning their third Grand Slam in eight tournaments.
Davies was chosen to compete for the 2013 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia. In what would have been O'Driscoll's last game for the British & Irish Lions, he was controversially chosen in the third test ahead of Brian O'Driscoll. The Lions won the third test convincingly.
Davies was selected to compete in the 2017 Lions Tour of New Zealand. He was named Player of the Series by his Lions colleagues.
