Joichiro Tatsuyoshi Life

Joichiro Tatsuyoshi (born May 15, 1970) is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) world bantamweight champion from Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan.

His record is 20–7–1 (14 KOs). He is well-known for his combat style and unique appearance, and he has appeared on numerous television variety shows. He is named after Joe Yabuki, the main character of the boxing anime, Ashita no Joe (Tomorrow's Joe).

Coincidentally, he fights in the same weight class (bantamweight) as the character after whom he is named. In comparison to his height (Tatsuyoshi is 164 cm tall with a 178 cm reach) and is known for his remarkably poor guard.

Unlike other boxers, who usually hold their hands closer to the chest, he often keeps his hands in front of his chest. He is handled by Osaka Teiken boxing gym.

Personal life

During his youth, Tatsuyoshi admitted that he was bullied. He beat it through boxing and never lost a street fight in his youth. He claims he never used his fists in street combat because a single knuckle blow could seriously injure his opponent. Instead, he used open-handed slaps and elbows. Tatsuyoshi has appeared in public advertisements opposing bullying because of his experiences.

He is known to train extremely hard. Trainers used to keep their young boxers away from Tatsuyoshi, not because he might injure the younger boxers in a sparring session, but because the younger fighters may have quit after learning the incredible amount of time Tatsuyoshi expended.

He quit his gym for about a year after losing an amateur bout, and he was homeless. He met his new wife at a cafe where he stopped by during this time. Tatsuyoshi cites his wife for his vigor as he returns to his gym.

He is friends with comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto of Downtown and appeared on his show Downtown DX. He is also a fan of baseball player Ichiro Suzuki, who has attended many of Tatsuyoshi's games.

He has appeared in the famous Japanese boxing manga Hajime no Ippo numerous times.
