Career

McClain, a 21-year-old boy, moved to Chicago, where he wrote and performed his critically acclaimed, multi-character one-man show "Like It Is." "We'll never recover to a day when theatre matters," McClain's art was compared to that of Eric Bogosian, John Leguizamo, and Anna Deavere Smith.

McClain continued to do stage work in New York City for several years, including appearing Off-Broadway in Jonathan Tolins' "The Last Sunday In June" at The Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and later in its transfer to The Century Center for the Performing Arts, as well as at Lincoln Center Theatre and the Lincoln Center Director's Lab. He has appeared on stage at the American Conservatory Theater, South Coast Repertory, Paper Mill Playhouse, and the National Jewish Theatre, as well as numerous theatres in Los Angeles.

He booked a lead in ABC's Jessica Simpson pilot in 2004 and over the next several years, made numerous appearances on television. In 2010, he was cast as the lead in TV Land's second original comedy series Retired at 35, which premiered at 10:00 p.m. in Cleveland.

He has also contributed to the Public Radio International game Fair Game (radio).
