John Suchet Life

On Classic FM, John Suchet (SOO-shay), a British writer, newsreader, television host, and musical host; born 29 March 1944) is a British author, writer, broadcaster, and musical host. Suchet has two brothers, one of whom is actor David Suchet.

He is the grandfather of broadcast journalist Rory Suchetand's uncle, actor Nick Hendrix, and broadcast journalist Richard Suchet.

Early life

Suchet was born in London, the son of Joan Patricia (née Jarché, 1916–1992), an actor, and Jack Suchet, (1908–2001), an actor, and Jack Suchet, who emigrated from South Africa to England in 1932, and trained at St Mary's Hospital, London, 1930. Suchet's father, who was working with Alexander Fleming on the role of penicillin in treating venereal disease, was a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist. James Jarché, his maternal grandfather, was a well-known Fleet Street photographer, best known for Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson's early photographs, as well as Louis Blériot (1909) and the Siege of Sidney Street. Suchet's father was of Lithuanian Jewish descent, and his mother was Anglican (she was of Russian Jewish descent on her own father's side, and of English descent on her mother's side).

Suchet was taken up by his two brothers, David and Peter. He attended Uppingham School in Rutland before attending Queen's College, Dundee (then a part of the University of St Andrews, now the University of Dundee), graduating in 1967 with a 2:12 in philosophy and political science. In 2000, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Dundee. Sir David, his younger brother, is an actor best known for his portrayal of Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie's Poirot's television series. Peter, his youngest brother, is a retired advertising executive.

Personal life

He is the father of RT presenter Rory Suchet, one of three sons from his first marriage.

Between Suchet and his second wife Bonnie, they had five grown-up sons from previous marriages. Bonnie was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in her early 60s in 2006. On February 17, 2009, Suchet appeared on mainstream ITN/ITV and BBC news bulletins to discuss the illness in order to raise suspicion of the illness and advocate for Admiral Nurses. Bonnie would have no idea that he was on the news shows, according to him. Bonnie died on April 15, 2015, at the age of 73.

In July 2016, John Suchet married Nula Black. She is the author of her book The Longest Farewell, an account of her late husband James' death, as well as a visit to Suchet through Bonnie at the care home.
