John Paxton Life

John Paxton (May 21, 1911, Kansas City, Missouri – January 5, 1985, Santa Monica, California) was an American screenwriter.

He was married to Sarah Jane, who worked in public relations for twentieth century Fox in 1944. Murder, My Sweet in 1944, Cornered in 1945, and Crossfire in 1947 were some of his films (an adaptation of the tense book The Brick Foxhole that earned him his first Oscar nomination).

He helped with the screenplay for Marlon Brando's tumultuous film The Wild One in 1953. For Murder, My Sweet, and Crossfire, Paxton's screenplay received the Mystery Writers of America's Award for Best Motion Picture Screenplay twice.

Personal life

Sarah Jane Miles was born in 1948, and Paxton married her on Dec. 4, 1948. She worked in public relations for 20th Century Fox. They had no children. He died as a result of emphysema complications.

Paxton was an uncle of comic book writer Ed Brubaker. The life of Paxton inspired Brubaker's 2013 film The Fade Output.
