John McNaughton (born January 13, 1950) is an American film and television director best known for his first film Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.
Personal life
McNaughton studied fine arts at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, and graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a bachelor's degree in television production and a minor in photography.
Career
Henry's first feature film, which was released in 1986, was Portrait of a Serial Killer, a film McNaughton directed, co-wrote, and co-produced. Several problems dogged the film, delaying its theatrical debut until 1989. The film was one of Time magazine's and Roger Ebert's top ten best lists and received the best picture award at Fantasporto, Sitges Film Festival, and the Brussels International Film Festival of Fantasy Film.
