John Carew Career

Club career

Carew began his playing days with L'renskog, a minor club in the Akershus area. He was already considered a natural youngster and had gained some media attention before being recruited by Visserenga in 1997, and Carew was part of the squad that won promotion to Tippeligaen and won the Norwegian Football Cup that same year. He played 58 games and scored 30 goals during his two-year career with the club, but his reputation soared even more due to his combination of strength and goal-scoring skills.

Carew joined Norwegian football's most profitable club of the past decade and Champions League mainstays Rosenborg in a contract worth 23 000 000 000 kroner during the summer of 1999. Rosenborg proved to be a strong unit during his brief tenure with the club, finishing first in their group in the UEFA Champions League, which featured a memorable away victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Carew moved to Valencia, Spain, in a €8.5 million transfer, where he also failed on penalties in the 2001 UEFA Champions League Final to Bayern Munich, although he failed on penalties. Valencia's goals in the campaign were pivotal, with a 75th-minute header in a 1-0 home victory over Arsenal in the second leg of the quarter-finals, which saw Valencia advance to the semi-finals. Carew was once more responsible for Arsenal's demise from the league in 2002-2003. Carew scored twice in Valencia's final game of the second group phase at home against Arsenal, needing a victory in their last game of the second group phase to advance to the quarter finals. He spent the 2003-2004 season on loan at Roma, where he scored 7 goals in 26 games. Carew later moved to Turkey in 2004 to compete with Beşiktaş. He was snapped up by Lyon for €7.6 million after the 2004–05 season. Although Carew was playing in Europe, he was always linked with a move to the English Premiership, and several unsuccessful attempts were made to sign him. He failed a medical at Fulham in 2002, and West Bromwich Albion had a bid turned down by Valencia.

Carew signed for Aston Villa in a free transfer with Lyon for Milan Baro on January 22, 2007. Carew is a three-and-a-half-year player for the Birmingham-based club. Carew went on to receive the No. Since Baro's resignation, ten jerseys were left empty.

Carew made his debut in Newcastle United's 3–1 loss to Newcastle United but the club's first goal was scored against West Ham United just three days later. After the match, Villa boss Martin O'Neill praised Carew's results.

Carew was Villa's first-choice forward in the season, and Villa fans awaited him. Despite promising results, Carew took his first action against Everton in a 2–0 victory. He sustained an injury in the same game and was out of action for six weeks due to a hamstring injury. In a 3–0 away victory over Middlesbrough in November, he scored in his second match back in the Villa team. In a 4–0 victory, he continued this up with a headed goal against Blackburn Rovers, a 4–0 victory, as Aston Villa continued to climb the Premiership table. Carew's 30-yard run and shot against Manchester City was the centerpiece of December's victory, but he was instrumental in several of the Villa's goals.

Carew scored two goals against Reading on January 12th, but not to be named Man of the Match, which went to Martin Laursen. In a 4–1 victory over Newcastle United, he scored his first hat-trick for seven years and his first for Aston Villa. Gareth Barry encouraged him to do so by kindly relinquishing his regular penalty taking duties so Carew could score his third. Carew scored for Aston Villa in the Premier League against Derby County at Pride Park in the 26th minute on April 12, 2008, and Villa went on to win the game 6–0. Carew scored twice against Birmingham City in the Birmingham derby at Villa Park on April 20, 2008. Villa Park defeated Villa Park 5–1. In a crunch game at Everton's Goodison Park that ended 2–2, he continued his scoring streak with a header the following week. It will be his 13th and final goal of the season, crowning him as Villa's top scorer for the 2007–08 season.

Carew scored his first goal of the 2008–09 season by scoring the first goal in Aston Villa's 2–2 draw over Odense in the Intertoto Cup. Carew signed a 12-month contract extension on August 14, extending his employment through 2011 with his new deal.

Carew scored the first goal in Villa's 4–2 victory over Manchester City at Villa Park. He then scored his second league goal against Stoke City, who went on to lose the match 3–2 after Mamady Sidibe scored a late winner. In the 2–1 victory over local rivals West Bromwich Albion, he earned his third installment of the season; and with Gabriel Agbonlahor on the scoresheet, the pair began to form a formidable alliance. In a 4–0 win over Wigan Athletic on October 26, they scored again and support each other's goals. Carew scored the winning goal in a Group F match against Slavia Prague on November 6, 2008, but Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell hit the ball toward goal but Carew was credited to Carew, extending Villa's undefeated run in the competition's group stages to the top of the table; the 1–0 win saw Villa advance to the top of the standings. In late October, Carew made the news due to his personal behavior. Martin O'Neill was fined two weeks in a Birmingham lap dancing club the night before Villa's UEFA cup group stage match with Ajax.

Carew sustained a back injury shortly after the scandal, which kept him out of the sport for several months. During this period, Villa boss Martin O'Neill signed Emile Heskey of England to fill the void left by Carew's absence. Carew was reportedly given a number of weeks to appear in the starting lineup for a number of weeks by Heskey. On the other hand, Carew's good form on return and his own injuries boosted his Norwegian to reclaim his position in the team's ranks. Carew played his first game after recovering from an injury on January 31, 2009 in a goalless draw with Wigan Athletic. Carew gained Villa a first leg draw with CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Cup, after going 1–0 down to Vágner Love's goal. Carew was drafted on March 1st in the Premier League's 2–2 draw against Stoke City on March 1, 2009, which was later designated as the team's goal of the season. In the away game against Manchester United at Old Trafford, he scored equalizing goals before netting the first goal in the home tie against Everton, which Villa fought back from 2–0 and 3–3 down to draw 3–3. Hull City and Middlesbrough's goals brought their league total score up to an impressive 11 goals from just 25 appearances.

Carew's first attempt to secure a regular spot in the starting eleven during the 2009–10 campaign was due to the persistence of fellow strikers Heskey and Agbonlahor. However, Carew was still scoring several key goals for Aston Villa despite being used as a substitute. In an FA Cup game against Reading on March 7, 2010, boss Martin O'Neill selected Carew in the starting eleven. In the FA Cup quarter final, he had the opportunity to score a hat-trick as Aston Villa came from two goals down to beat Reading 4–2. Carew was the competition's best scoring striker, prompting concerns as to why the Norwegian was never included in Villa's starting eleven. Carew joined the Villa team once more as the season progressed; the Norwegians defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sunderland, and Chelsea, putting the Norwegian team and Gabriel Agbonlahor as the team's joint top scorers for 2009–10.

Carew's campaign kicked off with Ashley Young's help following Gabriel Agbonlahor's injury. However, Emile Heskey suspended him from the bench due to both injury and lack of fitness. Carew's first team appearances became less frequent as the season progressed. He later that month, he reportedly missed a Villa game due to the heavy snow that caused his travel.

To a Norwegian television station, Carew spoke about his limited opportunities under new circumstances under new boss Gérard Houllier. Despite persistent rumors in the media about a feud between the former Lyon couple, Houllier revealed that Carew had been left out of the Aston Villa team to work on his fitness. However, Carew's first team chances were further reduced when Villa signed Darren Bent for £18 million.

Carew was one of a few players fired by the club after their contracts came to an end, according to Aston Villa's website on May 27, 2011.

On January 21, 2011, Carew joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the 2010-2011 season. Following his release, Carew said he was looking forward to a new challenge but that he had turned down offers from other clubs. Andy Wilkinson, the Stoke players, were among his arrivals.

Carew made his City debut the next day, in Fulham, where he was playing as a substitute. In a 3–2 win over Sunderland on February 5, he scored his first goal for Stoke. He followed up by scoring in the FA Cup against Brighton & Hove Albion. However, a back injury slowed his progress in a Stoke shirt. Tony Pulis did not offer Carew a contract with Stoke following his release from Villa.

West Ham United's Carew was a free agent on August 6, 2011 Football League Championship side. In a 2–2 draw with Crystal Palace on October 1, 2011, he scored his first goal for West Ham. Carew was signed on May 23, 2012, alongside five other players, including Julien Faubert, Frank Nouble, Papa Bouba Diop, Abdoulaye Faye, and Olly Lee. Carew did not sign a new deal with West Ham until the 2011–12 season.

Carew was in talks with his old club Vesselenga in August 2012, but Vlanderenga refused to pay him a salary of 600,000 kr per match. Kjetil Siem told Dagbladet that he had signed an unofficial deal with Carew in 2005, when Siem was Director of Football in Vienneenga, and that Carew would return to Vllerenga in 2012. In February 2013, he went on trial with Internazionale, but Inter was refused a job because Inter was worried about his health. Carew revealed in October 2013 that he had resigned.

International career

John Carew played 91 times for Norway, scoring 24 goals, and was part of Norway's Euro 2000 squad. On November 18, 1998, he made his full international debut and was Norway's first black player to represent Norway.

Acting career

Carew appeared in his first feature film, a Canadian horror called Dead of Winter, in 2014. On July 17, 2015, his second film, a Norwegian-made thriller called Hvdinger, was released.

Carew appeared in the hit Norwegian television series Heimebane in 2018, as Michael Ellingsen, an old footballer for a local Norwegian team.

In 2019, Carew appeared in the Disney's dark fantasy adventure film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, alongside Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

All the things you didn't know were giving you ear wax

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 23, 2023
It's irritating that ears have been blocked. However, an ear full of wax can cause pain, hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness as well as being a nuisance. And, counterintuitively, washing your ears with cotton buds may actually be contributing to wax buildup. According to one expert, earwax is produced inside your ears to help them fight germs and keep them clean. However, Dr. Samantha Wild, a GP at Bupa Health Clinics, says that although it rarely comes out of your ears on its own, too much can cause a blockage. And there are several ways to prevent your ear from draining wax naturally, from earphones and hearing aids to swimming. MailOnline has compiled a list of the things you might not have guessed were giving you earwax.
