John Banner Life

Born Johann Banner, 1928-born Johann Banner, 191-January 1910 – January 28, 1973) was an Austrian-born American film and television actor.

He is best known for his role as Master Sergeant Schultz in Hogan's Heroes (1965-1971).

Schultz denied that the prisoners of his stalag were planning mayhem, despite repeatedly observing evidence that they were planning mayhem.

I hear nothing!

I know nothing!"

"I know nothing, nothing!" says the series's more popular character "I know nothing, nothing!" "I like the sound of it."

Early years

Banner was born in Stanislau, Austria-Hungary (now Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine). He studied for a law degree at the University of Vienna but then decided to become an actor rather than a scholar. Adolf Hitler annexed Austria to Nazi Germany in 1938, when he was on stage with an acting troupe in Switzerland. Banner immigrated to the United States, where he quickly learned English.
