John Balance Life

Geoffrey Nigel Laurence Rushton (16 February 1962 – November 13, 2004), better known as the new Jhonn Balance or the later variant Jhonn Balance, was an English singer, occultist, writer, and poet.

He was one of the most influential figures in the industrial, experimental minimalist, and neofolk music scenes thanks to his early career and a variety of collaborations. He was best known as a co-founder of Coil's experimental music group, as well as his partner Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson.

Coil was operational from 1982 to Balance's death in 2004.

He was responsible for the majority of Coil's vocals, lyrics, and chants, as well as synthesizers and other musical devices that were both commonplace and esoteric.

Outside of Coil, he worked with Cultural Amnesia (at the start of the 1980s), Nurse Wound, Death in June, Psychic TV, Current 93, Chris & Cosey, Thighpaulsandra, and produced several Nine Inch Nails remixes.

John Balance Career

Early life and career

Geoffrey Laurence Burton was born balanced. He took the surname 'Rushton' from his stepfather. Balance became acquainted with Christopherson as a fan of the latter's group Throbbing Gristle in his teens. After Throbbing Gristle, the pair were both participants of Psychic TV, Christopherson's upcoming project. They eventually left Psychic television to form Coil.

Balance was especially good as a youth and in his early twenties. He wrote seven issues of a fanzine, Stabmental, alongside his early musical appearances and his participation in bands before Coil, as well as around the world. He also launched three compilation albums of music by bands and artists about which he was ecstatic: Endzeit, Bethel, and The Men with the Deadly Dreams. The compilations are now collector's items and sell at high prices. Balance, who grew up with Aleister Crowley and Austin Osman Spare, was an avid occultist.
