Beverly Joanne Linville (born January 15, 1928) is a retired American film and television actress.

In 1985, Linville and actress Irene Gilbert co-founded the Stella Adler Academy in Los Angeles.

Early life

Linville was born in Bakersfield, California, on January 15, 1928. She attended high school in Long Beach, California, and served as an oral surgeon's assistant before learning acting. When she was studying with Stella Adler, she danced competitively to pay her tuition.

Linville appeared on CBS daytime soap opera The Guiding Light as Amy Sinclair, a heroin addict whose daughter was almost stolen from her as part of a drug exploitation scheme. Linville appeared in two television presentations of One Step Beyond—as Aunt Mina in the episode "The Dead Part of the House" (1959) and as Karen Wadsworth in the episode "A Moment of Hate" (1960).

"The Passersby" was her first appearance in the Twilight Zone in 1961.

In 1966, she appeared as a Romulan commander in the Star Trek episode "The Enterprise Incident." Spock is the protagonist in this episode after being escorted into her spaceship for breaching Romulan territories. Spock does not fall for her charms and uses this as a ruse, despite being a Vulcan. Linville's highest-known appearance has earned her cult status, as well as her best-known appearance.
