James Lacey Dent (born May 9, 1939) is an American professional golfer. Dent was born in Augusta, Georgia, home of the Masters Tournament, but as an African American, he would not have been allowed to enroll in the Augusta National course at that time, save as a caddie.
As a youth, he competed at Augusta National and Augusta Country Club.
Dent attended Paine College in Augusta, which was historically black. Dent was first admitted to the army in 1966.
He was a Florida PGA champion three times during his (under 50) career.
