Jim Bianco Career

Career

Bianco spent time in Europe after graduating. Bianco was invited by a friend from college to Los Angeles, California, to perform in his band upon returning to the United States. In the spring of 2000, Bianco migrated to Los Angeles. He played bass and wrote songs with the band before the band disbanded. Bianco wanted to learn how to play the guitar, honed his singing abilities, and began to form a band of his own. He rented a room in West Los Angeles for $80 a month and continued to practice until he felt confident posting his music. He began attending open mic nights in Los Angeles, where he appeared at least three nights per week. He was one evening at the Hotel Café, a tiny coffee shop in Hollywood. Gary Jules was invited to open for Bianco shortly after.

The Hotel Café has expanded from a small coffee shop to what is now considered one of Los Angeles' best destinations. The Hotel Café has been lauded for the revival of the Los Angeles singer/songwriter movement, which began in the early 2000s. Musicians began flocking to the Hotel Café after Gary Jules' suggestion of creating a safe space for artists to hone their art, as well as a real need. Bianco, along with fellow musicians Gary Jules, Cary Brothers, and owners Marko Schafer and Max Mamikunian, collaborated together to create a joint venture that brought together the space, book, promote, and perform shows. Nic Harcourt, the legendary KCRW music producer, gave their efforts a major boost in terms of marketability. The Hotel Café is regarded as one of Los Angeles' most popular venues, due to the exceptional sound, intimate setting, and quality of the acts that appear on bill.

Bianco is a regular performer at the Hotel Café, and his residencies are a hit. Bianco's sets are known for being sold-out, high energy, and sexually charged performances, despite being predominantly accompanied. Bianco has rented a catwalk and invited his burlesque dancers to perform and throw feathers at his set. During his album "Sing" (which culminates in a sing-along), Bianco is also known for destroying the common fourth wall between audience and performer by leading his band into the heart of the audience.

Bianco's album "Sing" was the first album to be released on the Hotel Café Records label on March 4, 2008. After regular club hours, Bianco has said that the majority of the songs on the album were composed on the piano in the back room at the Hotel Café.

Cary Brothers is credited with the creation and production of the Hotel Cafe Tour, which began in 2005. Since its inception, Bianco has been on the tour's roster of headlining acts. He is one of the few Hotel Café performers to have participated in both the US and European legs of the tour. Jessie Baylin, Sara Bareilles, Cary Brothers, Holly Conlan, Greg Laswell, Mandy Moore, Gary Gardy, Matthew Moore, Ingrid Michaelson, Ingrid Michaelson, Susan Jenkins, George Mason, Meiko Murdoch, Joshua Radin, Buddy, Beth Ader, Andri Yamagata, Dan Wilson, Andch Walker, Bastille, Sara Bareilles, Jessie Baylin, Brian Wright, Bentley Stewart, Jesine

By 2003, Bianco's full band was established. Jason Pipkin, the band's first official member, was welcomed into the band. On the day Pipkin landed in California from Texas, Bianco met Pipkin at a gig. Kenny Lyon (then just a friend) was asked to suggest a bass player and Josef Zimmerman was introduced to him. Bianco began looking for a saxophone player and Zimmerman suggested Matt DeMerritt. Brad Gordon, a multi-instrumentalist, joined the crew to play keyboard, trumpet, clarinet, and accordion after watching Bianco's performance. Kenny Lyon decided to join the band after seeing Bianco's performance at The Mint in Los Angeles.

Bianco formed his 12 piece band Forniquette in 2014. Bianco's music is described as "modern brothel music." Forniquette's members include Jim Bianco (Vocals), Alex Budman (Clarinet/Tenor), Benjamin Katz (Trumbone), Elizabeth Lea (Trumbone), Danny Levin (Trumbone), Chris Lovejoy (Percussion), Danny Lea (Trumbone), Daniel Lea (Trumbone), Danny Levin (Trumbone), Danny Levin (Trumbone), David Moyer (Trumbone), Chris Lea

In addition, he has released "Painkiller," one live album titled "Jim Bianco Live at the Hotel Cafe," as well as one four-song EP with his brothel band Forniquette.

With many famous performers, including Squeeze, Gary Jules, Steve Earl, Shelby Lynne, Johnston, Tift Merritt, Matthew Bennett, Concrete Blonde, Over the Rhine, Josh Ritter, Jerry Levine, Melissa Owen Youngs, and others, Bianco has shared billing information.

Keiji Matsumoto, a Japanese independent record store owner, discovered “Well Within Reason” online and contacted Bianco about the album's distribution in his shop Café Goattee in 2002. The album came out quickly, and Matsumoto booked Bianco on a tour around Japan in February 2005. Bianco, with Brad Gordon and Jason Pipkin, ruled the nation, has ruled the world. Bianco's album "Steady" debuted in Japan in 2006. In April 2006, Bianco, alongside Brad Gordon and Jason Pipkin, visited Japan for their third tour in June 2009. Bianco returned from Japan in April 2010 for an acoustic tour, with six shows in five towns. Bianco returned to Japan in March 2012 for a seven-city tour with Gary Jules.
